How could Coffee and Riffs in a box possibly be a bad thing

Coffee gooooood, riffs gooooooood

You guys doing the Black Friday thing or nah? No pressure LOL, just wondering
Agree. I love the formatting. Just want to see some more applications of it without other effects, too.

OBNE, what's the situation with interval trimpots, just this guy? Procession v2?

I mean, I think it's hard to argue that OBNE is putting out some of the best media in the game. If the pedal teaser videos aren't very clinical and descriptive, is that really a bad thing? We all love knobs, but we're always requesting he use more pedal combos. You can't please everyone.

The nature of putting out loads of videos of people stacking loops is what made the "coffee and riffs" stereotype. It's great. I don't want any of this to come across as a jab or anything. I just know when I'm at home stacking loops, it sounds like a coffee and riffs video. And because you're videos are, to my knowledge, the only people pumping them out in this style regularly, it adds to the feeling. Don't ever change. I dig it. I also think the teaser in a song and long in depth tech demo is the perfect way to do it.

Nothing wrong with Coffee and Riffs, I actually really like those videos, Hear Here as well. Just that I find OBNE to be a bit of a one trick pony. I own a Black Fountain and love it, been on my board since I got it which I can't say about other pedals. I just find the Procession and Reflector to be a bit same old thing. So when they announced a new pedal I had some hopes for something different. The fact they're a pedal company with now 5 pedals in their lineup and 2 are basically a reverb, bit of the same old thing and same old sound.

If you love that sound then they're great, but I think there's other pedal makers out there making much more versatile stuff, like Chase Bliss for one.

I feel like it's unfair to compare anything to Chase Bliss. Joel has basically created a new world of effects with a high cost of entry and an insane level of tweakability. When I had a Procession I was able to quickly and easily dial in a variety of tones that were very useful and very tasty. The 4 knob, one switch layout doesn't leave you wondering if things would be better if you messed with a series of dip-switches, and I like that about OBNE. I would love a Wapred Vinyl, but I'd probably be up at night wondering if I could get a better tone out of it.

Sorry if this comes across as idiotic, I am drunk. Luv OBNE and Chase Bliss.

And Fuck Overdrive.

You managed to get a Fuck in there again.

(saucy).

With regards to OBNE. I disagree. I think they're putting out pedals that are fairly musically adventurous, with great art work and awesome media.
I really like the Chase Bliss stuff, but the cost is prohibitive for me. I get that it's practically an instrument in itself, however, in a live situation, I can't see
myself changing a vast number of parameters on a dark stage. Not having a dig at Chase Bliss, it SOUNDS REALLY GOOD, just it's not for me!

ThurberMingus is spot on.

kopped the dark star basically for granular/but crush hold alone. will be glad to have it do other things and discover it's weird character but that is what i wanted to add to my board. and art is righteous.

Well, that's why they have two presets slots and MIDI-capabilities. :p

It's funny, for me, I thought the Black Fountain was an extremely high-quality but otherwise pretty safe pedal! I mean, to put it in perspective, the TC Alter Ego (both versions, I think) can do convincing oil-can delay sounds, with more parameters than the BF. For me OBN really got interesting with the Procession and this new one. So I guess it's diff'rent strokes. I think OBNE is an awesome company and yeah, comparing things to Chase Bliss all the time isn't fair. Not everybody needs, wants, or can afford a $400 USD pedal. They are definitive, but it's a little like comparing your friend's garage band to The Beatles, maybe not with OBNE, Hungry Robot, or something like that, but definitely with the vast majority of "the little guy."

If you want compare OBNE with another brand, I'll go for Alexander Pedals who has the same type of effects, layout. Basically 4 knobs with a 3 way switch to select a special effet. And they both probably use a FV-1 chip (OBNE for sure, Alexander I dunno).
Fuzzonaut about the RM-1N:
"Amp in a box"?
No, there's no amp in there - tone fairies and feedback goblins live inside this box.

Noticed that myself. If Alexander artwork went with a more artist-y hand-drawn aesthetic, they could easily be mistaken for OBNE pedals.

i also like the way OBNE roll, though yes the tech demo is a tad more helpful in deciding if i actually want a pedal,
their aesthetic of just diving in and pretty much just creating a song utilizing their pedals is something i'm thankful that exists.
at the end of the day it's a unique experience, that no one else is really doing, and i appreciate the artistic nature of it greatly.

i am very interested in adding this to my noise game....
not today though, it's going to have to wait till after the holidays for me.

I'm pretty psyched to check this one out... I think the trim pot for output would be something I'd be inclined to wait for. Love the video but like many I'm also looking forward to the technical demo.

As for OBNE in general, I think they're fucking great. Rad videos, personalities, design, excellent sounds. Regarding the level of adventurousness, I think they're definitely far above average. I mean, you could say that Chase Bliss doesn't venture outside of modulation. You could, but you don't... because that'd just be looking for something to pick at.

I have a weak spot for trippy eery faux reverb pedals...Especially if they're compact and not overly complicated and overflowing with controls :)
Not sure my Aftnerneath leaves any room for this one though...:s
