Post by Gunner Recall »

I have the bass mod on mine, and I feel that it is really one of those options that should not be an option! In regular fuzz mode(the right side switch), it does indeed add a richer texture on the bottom end. It's when you kick on the oscillation side (the left button in conjunction with the right button) that the mod really makes it's mark, as it shifts the voicing of the oscillation and well... you'll see.
It's special :)*

Interesting, thanks for the input.
My other concern is that I have heard that the proprietor of Fuzz Hugger is an liberal tax loving tree hugging socialist. Just look at the name and that battery nonsense on the website.

 I'm more of a liberal, unfair-tax hating, hippie...but nice try. I'd love to be a socialist. You're lucky I started building pedals instead of joining a commune.

But you might be onto something!

But seriously, I'd love to actually discuss the bass mod and hear what others think.

I've done it on-board and on a toggle. I think it's best on a toggle. To some ears, it's not going to be an extreme change...but it's an important change. It essentially allows more bass in and through the pedal. It's not that the standard AB-Synth is lacking bass, but the mod opens up the bottom a bit. Some might hear its effect as more bass, more texture or more fuzz in the lower end, etc. I call it the Voice mod, cause that's what's really going on (especially in the oscillation mode!). It allows for two drastically different oscillation voices!

This toggle sounds like it will be my friend. Just waiting on that bing cashback
I got my sucka punch cashback right away, but they made me wait the full 60 on my ibby.

The good news is that it pays for half an absynth

Here's an crappy, outdated clip of the original bass mod...I've extended/refined it a bit since recording this (very early on). It now allows for a bit more low end (while the top remains in tact), and makes a much bigger difference in the oscillation mode. It allows for more drones, etc, in bass mode!

There's some comparison stuff, and then about 3/4ths of the way in, I lose the plot.

:hello: gunner

yes, you will want an ab-synth with the bass/voice toggle. with the toggle off you have ab-syth! who doesnt want an ab-synth? hell, even my pet wolf computer loves it. i turn it on and her ears perk up and she comes running. that barefoot, patchouli oil wearin, sandal wood incense burning, wanna be hippie pedal builder could not have built a cooler pedal... :erm:

OH OH OH HE HAS A VOICE TOGGLE OPTION!!! :yay:

yes, it is awesome and you need one! :poke:

having the toggle gives you :joy: in one position and :omg: in the other! it really does change the voice of the pedal. it is more than just a bass boost. it will thicken you up quite nice in normal ab-synth mode and it will change the sound of the osc!!! :yay:

you should get the dragon one! :poke:

My ab-synth had the bass mod. No toggle, I wanted it all the time. It's an amazing sounding fuzz. Hella heavy!

I had an Absynth (I think it was #9?) and it sent it back to Tom for the bass toggle cause Tom's the man. Anyways, you want the toggle. It definitely adds a whole nother dimension to the sound, ESPECIALLY in osc. mode.
