Glitchy/Slicey/Shimmery FX question

I've been looking for pedals similar to The Bad Comrade. Looking to add something strange (by my standards) to my board.

I had to search to figure out what that is. Sounds like a Noise Ensemble (DIY PT2399 fuzz/delay/chorus/chaos, and dead simple to build), but tweaked to do more obvious glitch things--freeze has gotta be delay feedback cranked up and it looks like expression control of delay time, though I'd have to watch a few more times to have a theory on the stutter switch. Seppuku may be the closest zone of PT2399 abuse, though Mid-Fi is definitely an original zen master in the art.

Agreed. Sounds like an NE with a reverb/slapback delay on the back end of it. Also Noise Ensembles are awesome.

Noise Ensemble seems to be overlooked here (since I rarely see it mentioned until now). It's definitely a fuzz first and foremost (so it's not very "shimmery" -- too grimey for that) but awesome.

If you think Seppuku or Mid-Fi is too expensive, build yourself a Noise Ensemble. You'll be in similar territory. IMO.

You might enjoy the Malekko Foxtrot. Hotone probably makes the cheapest shimmer available, though I've never played it. I thought the Hotone trem was adequate, but I'm a synth user, not a guitarist, so concepts like tone coloration/volume drop are not a big deal in my universe.

My personal favorite shimmer is the Mr. Black Eterna in gold. It was more ethereal and mesmerizing to me than something like the Supernatural. The Supernatural would be great for oscillating drones and dark film soundtracks.

To be fair, I'm not sure anyone at ILF has played the Shimverb pro and shared their opinion. If I was focused on shimmer on the cheapz, I'd just look at the Zoom MS-100BT and MS-70CDR. Their shimmer modes shoot at the Strymon Blue Sky and the Ice Delay setting from the Timeline. The first is good, the second is pretty fucking stunning.

(Fun trick to know--as with octave-up fuzz, shimmer patches react to your tone knob settings. It's like why flat wound 12-string sets have clearer octaves because the lower strings in the courses don't compete with buzzy harmonic haze. So the octave-up stuff stands out more when you roll off your treble. Try rolling the sucker around and find some shades of sounds that are accessible in realtime and that you don't have to adjust the pedal to get at.)

it is super adjustable and does some great sounds - not as good as the digitech verbs (polara and supernatural)

none of these probably compare to the bad comrade however that thing looks flipping killer, although I think I can get all those sounds with my pitchfactor and slicer

Ct5 can glitch, stutter and shimmer.
