I think part of it is just because of the area I live...no real way out that is quick (the triangle of the 10 and 405)...it ain't too bad...since I get to work from home, I kinda plan my days around off times. Now the wife, she drives 40 miles each way...and if she misses her windows...looking at 2 hours but usually around 1 hour (though when we lived closer to the beach and she worked 7 miles away, it would take 45min to 1.5 hours a day...so, I dunno haha, LA).

Don't ever ride the bus though...unless you've got up to an extra 4 hours each way (I used to out walk it every night over 4 miles to work and back home).

Granular! I dunno, I wonder if Strange Tales ever got his modular setup interfaced to use his bass through the granular setup? MAybe look into the snazzy interface and elements as an alternative? (might be just as expensive though)

This is exactly what my "the future is now, where's the cool shit thread" was hoping for, but uhhhhhh...the future is gonna have to fucking wait for that kind of coin.

And with no disrespect to the designer of the piece, because it's dope as shit, but I kinda feel like this is the technology that is going to get progressively less expensive as more and more nerds push the envelope of synthesis.
but what are guitar pedals...really..?

Especially considering (again no offense meant to the unit, its capabilities, or its creator) that all you're paying for is the interface since these tools exist in software for much less/free.

yea shit is muy rupees. but u could say this for pretty much anything.

the expansion modules are also really cool. SP1200 converters and filter? sign me up
the whole thing would end up costing u so much tho.

as for other granular options. i really like the simplicity of the micro granny. prob doesn't do 1/10th of what this can do, but its not really all about infinite potentialities for me.

for this kinda dough, i'd prob go w/ an octatrack honestly and i'd still have some bills left over maybe

This model is less $ than an Octatrack but it definitely does less. The regular deformed is way more comparable to the Octatrack in price and function.

While a computer can definitely do more, it is also more of a blank slate. I like devices that are purpose built. Also, no need to worry about it crashing or getting a bug. It is smaller and probably going to outlast most computers, a decent priced laptop (Mac) last 7 years or so before it is painful to use or it breaks. A lower end Winfows computer is really good for 3-4 years... This thing will still be mangling stuff.
For the price of 1 expensive and 2 medium priced pedals, you get a lot.

Thanks Deltz. I'm getting one. If the filter is excellent I think it will be a really good fit all the way around for me.
