If you cut the shite (and there's a lot of it) from Load and Reload, you're left with about 7 or 8 solid tracks that would make a tight record. 2x4 is such a great song. It just has that groove to make you want to fight people. Unashamedly idiotic jock rock. Fun as fuck.


Major label Jawbox > Dischord Jawbox. when J Robbins realised he'd had enough of all that spiky, angular discordance and decided he wanted to write insurmountable rock anthems was the turning point. Mirrorful should have won the Grammy for Best Song Ever Written.


I'm going to put the same argument forward for Jawbreaker. Dear You > Everything else. I don't understand why THE PUNX were so alienated by what is a great record. An accomplished record. Was it because it doesn't sound like it was recorded in a phonebox? Or is it because Blake decided to stop sounding like he'd gargled lighter fluid and eaten a bag of nails? I much prefer that snarly-whisper he has going on on Dear You.

See, I love me some Jawbox, but I think Novelty is such a great album... and honestly kind of MORE accessible than a lot of what followed.

But I dunno. I'm just happy that anyone's still talking about Jawbox besides me.

My phone died today and so we had to listen to the radio for a few minutes.

Sum 41 came on the radio and I was embarrassed just having it come through my speakers. I was ashamed to have put my wife through that kind of trauma. I thought of myself as a good husband, but now... I mean, if I can't protect my family, what good am I?
