Blackout Effectors Musket vs Blunderbuss

Post by BitchPudding »

So I'm considering swapping out my twosome for a Musket since I hardly ever use the Fix'd fuzz side of the pedal.

I'm just curious if there's a massive tonal difference between the musket or blunderbuss before I got and slap the twosome on B/S/T.

Thoughts?

Dude I love the Twosome so much. Don't the newer ones have a Blunderbuss in some of them?? I thought they did. Maybe I'm wrong. I've never tried it but it was my understanding that it's a very similar circuit to the Musket. I could be way off here though.

t-rey is selling his Twosome, as well, because of not using the Fix'd side. I think that is a shame. When I first got mine I rarely used the Fix'd. But, after a lot of time exploring it, I fell in love. Musket is the instant gratification. Fix'd is the hidden reward. The Fix'd side will get way crazier than the Musket side, something I'd think would be appreciated around here.

I believe Musket and Blunderbuss are pretty much the same circuit. Just Blunderbuss is a silicon/germanium hybrid and the Musket is all silicon.

Musket is a little darker and woolier sounding whereas the Blunderbuss is a bit brighter and raspier (to my ears anyway). The Blunderbuss is also quieter in terms of noise. Obviously both can be seriously tweaked in any direction. I prefer the Blunderbuss for its aggression.

I remember the days when Fix'd Fuzzes didn't even come with outside gains :oldrant:

Remember having the old Fix'd for ages, ended up not loving it with my Jazzmaster, but those were some dark days man... I was dumb about some stuff back then. And didn't realize I actually hated the bridge pickup - the Squier JM bridge pickup is utter shite.

Anyway - if you guys think Fix'd is hard to dial in, imagine having to dial it in with two trimmers as well

It's an awesome fuzz just FYI... I wholeheartedly recommend spending more time with it, man  I wish I didn't get rid of it, in the range of pedals I had it's definitely one of the more interesting and better ones

fix'd fuzz is the best part of the twosome. you don't use it? you should just start using it then.
This is a very impressive collection of Roto Toms. That's 21 Roto Toms in all. That is only $33.00 a Roto Tom.

I kinda wish I had never sold my twosome. I agree that the musket side is much easier to get your head around, but the combo is so sick. I ended up selling mine because I don't like having that many switches and knobs, but in reality the tones were godlike and I should have gotten over how overwhelmed i was. easily one of the heaviest sounds i've ever gotten out of a pedal

Was playing my twosome earlier after this post. Kid poked his head in: "uh, dad? you have some um, static problems."

Kids are not the best choice for stacking

Just for more info, my twosome doesnt let me stack the fixd side. It was the earlier one before that was a feature.

Basically the fixed was my low gain side but my dirge pedal ended up taking care of that.

Also its being used on bass.

Musket and Blunderbuss are the same circuit architecture but they sound and play very different. Musket is classic Muff. Dark and mushy. Blunderbuss sounds more modern. Sharper. Brighter.
If you really like the Musket, the Blunderbuss will not be an acceptable replacement.
