Bands similar to Lonesome Crowded West by Modest Mouse
What's in this vein? This one and the Moon and Antartica are the only two by them I'm really into, but both are great.

Kal Marks is similar in the sense that he has an unconventional voice and they use interesting chords and progressions. Check out the songs Peaking or Parking Lot.

It depends on what you like about it!
The angular guitar?
The oddball vocals?
The bizarre, dark lyrics and feel?
I guess overall, my mind goes to Pavement, Archers Of Loaf, Dismemberment Plan, for sure.
Minutemen, too, though I'm hardly an authority...

I like the entire weird, almost country feel of it I guess? I grew up on a lot of country because my dad loves it but I'd rather it be really weird country.

This is rad, the vocals are a little grating but in a good way.neonblack wrote:

If you're going to check out BTS, be sure to check out Perfect From Now On. It came out just before Keep it Like a Secret. FAN-TASTIC driving record - especially, at night.

Thread is relevant to my interest, of course. Keep em coming.
Lync
Pavement
Pinback
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Kicking Giant (some tracks)
Fjorden Baby (the first album. Norwegian band. More like a psychedelic Sad Sappy Sucker meets punk. Dunno. It's good)
Also check out Mimicking Birds. More folksy and mellow, but Isaac signed them to Glacial Pace, so they're worth checking out. Where Isaac criticised the paving of America in TLCW, they are more into environmentalism on a global scale. Tree huggers, if you will. I think I listened to their first album non-stop for 2-3 months. Isaac even has backing vocals on a track or two off of the first album. But yeah, it's very minimalistic and not really like MM, but they still share a certain feel or essence.

Weird Country....(maybe I am a little "on the nose" but I big a lot of this stuff...)
X (the Knitters, side project of X)
The Blasters (Dave Alvin in general I guess) [maybe to rockabilly]
Jay Munly (all the side project...probably avoid anything before Jimmy Carter Syndrome)

Slim Cessna's Auto Club (and Denver Broncos UK)
Tarantella
Denver Gentlemen are a big one (16 horsepower, Wovenhand, etc all kind of start here)

Don't worry...I know I missed the point...but some of my old modest mouse friends dug this stuff when I showed them
