The same kind of goes for mid 80s The Cure. At the time I got into that stuff I was just kind of motivated to delve into that sort of thing.
Follow up question for this thread: are you more likely to be put off by an album that sounds to "good/clean" or "dirty/lo-fi?"
For me (and I would guess many here), it's the former.
