You know what sucks? All of Refused.

I can't think of an album's production that I hate, listening to so many awfully ripped screamo albums really makes listening to anything easy.

It's been a looooooooooong time since I listened to that one, but:

a) yes

and b) I found that kind of endearing about it at the time.

Yeah I can get behind that. Coming into that whole wave of 'industrial' after the fact, though, makes all those records a hard listen, esp. given the fact that the adjectives attached to them nowadays all use pretty sinister verbiage... but then you actually hear it and it's just:

Pretty Hate Machine was cheesy all the way around. Actually, 99% of NIN is too (I like a few tracks).

Production-wise:

That newest St. Vincent album (even though I know it was an "artistic" choice...DRod told me). It just sounds over done and synthetic in a bad way and doesn't capture any of the life that her guitar playing shows in person (not really a fan in general, but it gets played at my house). Some of the songs are way better than they are portrayed on the album.*

Both Empire of the Sun albums sounds like it was made on a computer in the worst possible way. They are a fun live band that does goofy stuff live and are entertaining enough to get me to go...but live they have a lot of guitar...on the albums even the guitar sounds synthesized. The vocal mixes are weird too...*

Every Radiohead album...I don't like the band, but will go see them...gotta say something about their albums (find them long and boring).*

GISM SoniCRIME TheRapy is just too harsh or compressed or something. It is just kind of a mess and it my least favorite because of it...I think if they would have stuck to their old ways it would have worked out better....or maybe the songs are really just less dynamic and good? :idk: It either sounds too loud or too quiet.

I don't really fault bands without resources too much and it doesn't really bother me if an independent album is produced "bad"...good songs usually can be heard through bad production...maybe that says something about me and how production can make me go either way on mediocre songs? Personally, I think things like Tranqulizer or Confuse show much more life than anything done "proper" for a long time. They just have more life or something.

I will probably think of some other ones later.

I support everything being said about Pretty Hate Machine (especially the gif).

Nine Inch Nails didn't really get good until he learned how to metal.

Most of my favorite records sound like shit.

I wish I could like Nirvana and Pixies more.

I feel like I would have loved Sunbather, if you could hear anything but drums and vocals.

Haven't gotten into Deafhaven, mostly because there are so, so many bands that kinda sound like them and are actually better than them, and I frankly resent how popular they are.

Why resent a band's popularity?

I hear what you're saying and I know it sounds awful.

Mostly because there are a lot of Pitchforky indie kids that love Deafhaven but don't know anything about black metal really.

Although I love Alcest and the same could be said of them.

You're right, naturally.

I could see that if you were yourself a black metal aficionado and felt that someone was appropriating your kvltvre.

I don't like the idea that in order to enjoy a band, you have to research, absorb, and appreciate the entire genre first.
