very nice - I like that maple a lot

Anyone have tips for preventing blowout when cutting dovetails on baltic birch?
Im using a leigh jig and driving myself insane with this.
Router is a single speed porter cable. Bits are new and made by leigh.
Whats the secret?!
Edit: Google suggests I am not the only one with this issue and that:
1.Starting with a climbing cut and
2. Keeping the back board pressed against the piece
should eliminate this problem.
Does anyone have any additional tips?

Maybe clamping a strip of scrap plywood to the back might help.

So using both back and front boards, tearout was totally avoidable. My pins came out great, but I failed to use the front board for the tails since any tearout that would occur would end up on the inside. Regardless, I'm happy with the results.

I'm going to re-tolex a Marshall VS412 cab that I bought off someone who had it covered in duct tape. By my calcs, the dimensions of the 3 sides that need to be covered are 0.95 square yards. I'm assuming that I'm just asking for trouble if I only buy 1 square yard of tolex, correct?

that doesn't sound nearly enough. more like 1.2 if you buy it by the square yard 1.5 if you do all 4 sides, which honestly you should if you are going to retolex it, don't half ass it by leaving a side. if you go with the square yard.that way you cut it in half and get the total you need but you have more seems. But some vendors sell it cut down to cab size, meaning it's 18in wide. if that's the case then you need 3 yard

Thanks SLK. I appreciate the help. I'm going to use purple tolex. Any particular vendors you recommend?

I like speakerbuildersupply but they are limited.
going with guys on ebay has better results because ordering from mojotone in a small amount... you might as well just buy a whole new cab.
