THANKS! You could've told me!

Post by phantasmagorovich »

... that Jesus Lizard is awesome!

Seriously though, I remember having listened to them at least five times along the years and I always went meh. I honestly don't even think I could understand how anyone likes that band. And I love Bastro, Shellac and lots of other stuff that sounds like it went to the same school.

Now here I am, totally freaking out to Liar. (finally)

Are there maybe shitty albums that I should avoid to not have the same reaction as before?
Was I just stupid?

you should check out Scratch Acid too if you're not familiar - I've always liked them a bit better for whatever reason.

All albums are great but Down and Blue get the least attention from myself.

Also highly suggest watching "Show". Its one thing to listen to the record, but the tightness of the band and the insanity of Yow's delivery is next level live.

Also check out Pissed Jeans-a modern, harder Jesus Lizard rip-off who I love nonetheless.

I feel like there's a few of us who spend approx 30% of our time on here saying that all these awesome new bands are seriously indebted to the Jesus Lizard. How is this not indicative of the fact that you should persue TJL further even if you have already written them off?
good deals are here.

I mean, forget new bands. Nirvana was completely indebted to them. I'm not even really a TJL/SA fan, but it would be asinine to ignore their influence. One of the most important American indie rock bands of all time

I don't like his voice :idk:

Young Widows' Old Wounds is my favorite record and it took me way too long to actually listen to TJL.

yeah, earlier Young Widows are totally a lot like TJL in a great way :)

later ones are great as well but totally different, more lo-fi, deep and introspective. Better for sexing :idk:

I've used the album "Goat" as a sort of litmus test to gauge other's reaction to "different from radio rock" music. I learned about TJL from Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums" book, and I was interested in it because if the cover has a nipple on it, it must be worthy to listen to. I'm now listening to "Goat" and forgot I like them so much.
