Lookie what I bought

Post by Jero »

Thought I'd share my purchases over the past couple days-week or so, some impulse buying, some highly wanted additions...

Squier Affinity J-Bass - in great shape, still has the plastic and sticker on the pickguard. A little better than the earlier affinity's from what I remember. Cleaned the few gook spots off, buffed it up, set the intonation, ready to go.

Acoustic B20 - pretty awesome sounding practice amp (loud 20watts), I'm sure mic'ing it would do nicely for a gig if needed. Going to hook up a jack to run it into my other cabs, to really hear the toanz.

Univox U65RD - another good little combo, circa 1976 (don't remember exact date), with reverb and clipping. Has the tiniest little reverb inside, which is pretty quiet. I'll post a pick of that when I open it back up. The clipping surprisingly sounds quite decent. Only problem is the un-safe power cord, and the power switch doesn't functioning properly. When it gets turned off, the sounds still comes out and eventually fades off. I have an old silvertone that does the same thing :grumpy:

Ehx Small Stone - It would seem that my Smallstone is a mix between the Russian v2 & v3. Meaning, it has the v2 enclosure and circuit, while bearing the v3 screening. :idk: Sounds good as hell...now I need to fix the bypass issues it's having and change the color switch to a pot. Sometimes when I turn the stone off, I lose a lot of volume, and have to turn it back on/then off, to get my volume back. It was fairly dirty/rusty when I got it. Gave it a good cleaning, & sadly had to cut the orig chickenhead off to get everything out..
Ehx Double Muff - This thing is nice, actually has a lot to work with. Can't wait to open it up (again  ) to see what else I can do with her.

...& really the only purchase that matters is...a Univox EC-100 Tape Delay, that I bought in "unused for years, yet should work condition"

Image

What's that you say? "That's cool but good luck finding tapes, buddy!" Well let's have a look around back shall we...

 That delay works great and sounds wonderful! WONDERFUL! Haha, I'll get some clips up as soon as I can. I wish someone had been filming my reaction when I won the EC-100 + the U65RD, I just jumped up yelling and ran sprints up and down my hallway

Wow, congrats on the latest acquisitions! Love to hear a demo of the tape delay. I'm a sucker for the vintage stuf. My first amp was a Unicord/Univox Stage 25 that I got back in the mid 70s, still have it. SS and it sounds damn good, played it for an hour last week.

Are those tape loops built into 8 track cartridges? :thumb:

The Affinity J was my first bass and was really better built than I knew at the time. It's also one of the only Jazz basses out of Fender's line that can be run without a pickguard (Jaco style) without any extra unsightly routs.

I love it! I would have acted the same way. Get some clips of that tape echo up ASAP. :thumb:

The tapes are actually much smaller than they look, half the size of 8track I think? Haha, I'm 21, before my day. I have three of these suckers so hopefully they will last "for eh ver."

I really love Univox stuff. One of my main amps is a Univox 1221. Unfortunately, I'll likely end up parting with the U65RD. I have had to sell off several Univox/similar amps :( . The one I want the most was the 2x12 I had, in almost mint condition.

A few nights ago my roommate, myself, and a buddy of ours were hanging out, passing the peace pipe, when my rmate & I decided to jam a bit. Every time I get new gear, I start setting stuff up and just make him start riffing while I tweak everything  . We'll I had the EC100>DD3>sstone/cs9/tmelt/wah>tele, and some great sounds were made to say the least! At one point I ran the direct from the DD3>TS>U65RD as well, for some stereo fun.
Our friend noticed a slide sitting on the floor and inquired about it, so I tossed it to the guitar man and went back to tweaking...Remember the crazy boat ride through the tunnel in Willy Wonka?..

I actually recorded all of ^that^. After I get it all cut and spliced I'll post it up. I need to sign up on soundclick or something. I will also get some things recorded with just the EC100.

Is soundclick the best option for uploading music? Does anyone know of anything better/different? (not that there's anything wrong with SC)

I was thinking the other night, there are high & low ins/outs. I like using the high jacks normally. Is there nay reason I couldn't get some feedback going by running the low out back in, while using the high with guitar still?
