Most of it I suspect is rarely having a drummer - the brass of the kit at ear level seems to be what does the insane ripping damage.

I play out of a 4x10 and a 2x12 with a Dual Rectifier and a boat load of pedals. Other guitarist plays out of a 4x12 and a 5150 with a slightly smaller boat load of pedals. Bassist right now is an Ampeg fridge with an old Peavey bass head that is in need of an upgrade, more than likely. But we still play louder than necessary, I'd hazard a guess as to that.

I am looking forward to the day when I have the ability to play through my Trace Elliot 1215 combo and a Fender Stage 100 with a Crate 412 cab. I see heavier guitarists play with two amps all the time, and I want that too.

Yes. But I mostly play drums in bands. My right ear is at about 50%. Left is more like 90%...women's voices are difficult for me, as many of those frequency ranges fall within my lost ranges. My students think that's a misogynistic joke...anyway, yeah it's mostly cymbals that do it.
I hear a lot of ringing, much of it almost out of my range. Makes falling asleep hard to do sometimes.

I use protection now, but the damage is done. I used to go apeshit when I was a young warthog. I would smash my hands on the hoops and cymbals and spray blood everyhwere--not on purpose. But volume was a big deal. We used two 100 watters for guitar, a 300 watter for bass, and a 400 watt PA. The PA was pointed at me.

It's definitely the drums, my left ear is fucked from being at crash/brass snare level in my old band all the time.

Yep. That's been my experience talking to the folks who have definite loss versus those who don't in bands - their proximity to a drummer if any (and it's directional based on standard stage presence).

My guys did percussion, with or without electronic stuff, and didn't do the brass Little did I know at the time (and I always was religious about sitting away from a drummer if there was one just because the caterwauling usually got in the way of hearing the rest of the band).

Ever since I started playing, mobility was always an issue, so I always played smaller amps. that's the reason why I got into 15s for bass and why I swear by 115 (at least!)

but I'd sure as hell like to be at least able to bring a bigger cab (or 2x15). It's just that even as a three piece with just one car, you can't really do that we can't sometimes even bring all our gear as small as it is... hate backline though
(in all honesty - we are talking about buying a van after the album release so then we can always bring at least our whole small rigs, soundguy and maybe some friends from time to time)

Bass Player: Peavy Mark III? (I think) + Ampeg 8x10 and a Peavy 2x15
Other Guitar Player: Twin Reverb and a Verellen Meat Smoke + Roadhouse 2x15

i dunno. i mean, i get the WALL O SOUND, but i also get annoyed at bands playing with us at smaller spots that bring a trailer full of road cases. if there's no backstage or green room to stash gear, shit gets problematic.

i roll small. four 12's, one is a two 12 Aggy, then a pair of 1x12 Aggies. one set of 12's for one pedalboard, a pair of 12's for the other.
