Haha I'm not sure if you're serious. I've never tried either so I'm just talking out of my ass.

I can get it for solo and noise stuff.
But if all you're doing is masturbating while your band is playing, then why play live? Why play in a band even?
Its totally cool and totally fun, but if yall know these rigs are obnoxious for their use, then isn't it just self-defeating?

My band plays too loud, too. But idk if its something to necessarily be proud of.
I don't think anyone here would be guilty of that. But that shit is funny to see, the one band member with a fullstack or a giant pedalboard they're constant fiddling with but it's all overdrive and compression pedals.

Some bands need it. Some bands don't. I do think those things are a much more legitimate case of "what works for them wouldn't work for me" and vice versa compared to, say, swapping out reverb pedals or delays though.

back in the day my obnoxiously large rig was a 4x12 and a 2x15 but I think I'd just use a 1x15 if I got back into gigging in a non-metal/heavy capacity. Just got offered a spot playing bass for a black metal band, though. Jammed with one of the guitarists in a totally different capacity some months ago (think sort of Fatso Jetson-y improvs) ,ran into him recently again. OTOH: Dude called me a 'great bass player' so I'm pretty sure his ears are super fucked up.

Is this just an excuse to post some Fatso Jetson? OFC IT IS

Totally get that.
I suppose then my question is "is it really working for you?".

I have band-friends who swear by it. I have band-friends who wouldn't be able to function with that setup. I'm much more towards the second half of this spectrum.

I use 2 2x12s and a 100 watt amp, though it sounds just fine quiet, as well as loud:

Simms Watts ap100, Sunn1200s>6x12+4x12/2x10 with way to many pedals. The rest of the band is equivalent. I am the guy your mother warned you about.

Yeah that's a good way to put it. People should use whatever works for them, I just enjoy when folks bring out amps like these to small gigs. Last time I saw author and punisher he brought his own massive PA and all his weird apparatus into a tiny bar piece by piece by himself. During his set it felt like my guts were being twisted into pretzels. I appreciated the effort.

for me it's as much as about having headroom too. I've got this weird thing where I prefer a bass amp to be running on five or six at the most rather than flat out. It's good for dealing with loud drummers and most rooms having the acoustic properties of a shoebox stuffed with fairy floss too.

Currently using Science Mother and 2x15 for every show. Old band was much slower and heavier so it was that plus an acoustic 370 and another 2x15. I like bass to rumble.

I used to measure my stage volume by reaching down to the 1x15 and feeling for SPL.

I'd play, typically seated (bum ankle even before I got sick) slightly behind/to the side of the amps and cabs.

If it didn't make my hand take notice, it wasn't loud enough!

The band(s) I played with the presence was part of the thing.

If the wobble from the dueling LFO delays didn't eat babies....then we were doing it wrong.
