Re: super fuzz fix
Never played a Bee Baa :/ it is very high on my list. I have been rocking a Foxx TM clone lately and I totally dig it, prefer the octave off. Totally gnarly yet fairly articulate (for bass). I definitely prefer it to any Superfuzz based pedal I have tried. But yeah Bee Baas and Brassmasters, that's where I'm headed next time I get the itch.

In one pedal
What would you use?
I've been a muff rat and blue box man but haven't found the rest of my palette

Re: super fuzz fix
Bee Baa w/ tone select set to scooped is gnarly as fuck. Sounds good being pushed by a Rat aswell, adds some cut and tightens up those palm mutes some if your playing guitar.
The Roland Double Beat is also a nasty fuzz and could be considered also.
I love Muffs and Rats, and feel the Bee Baa of all the other fuzzes I've flipped through over the years fills my needs the most. Really comes down to tastes. I play sludgy type stuff and prefer tighter, nasty fuzzes with gobs of bottom.

Re: super fuzz fix
The LAL 46 ups the bass game a lot too on the superfuzz design on the scooped setting. Bee Baa is good too.
LAL thunderboxx will give you a more hifi scooped setting to a fuzz. Sounds good with the 46 and bee baa actually

Re: super fuzz fix
If you go the BeeBaa route, get an appropriate clone with the actual nasty boost in it as well. It's one of my favorite dirty boost options out there, even when I don't want the sheep itself.
A lot of the modern "retakes" take that away, and it makes me sad.

That was a lot of the reason I waited until I found a good priced original and I didn't like the black cat and the barge. The barge just sounded kind of dead too.rfurtkamp wrote:If you go the BeeBaa route, get an appropriate clone with the actual nasty boost in it as well. Re: super fuzz fix
I flipped a few clones until I found one that stuck, one that did was from some Canadian one-off guy that just wasn't moving on the bay so I made an offer.
Sounds close enough to my old Bee Baa that I stopped looking.

I just got lucky on mine in an auction...no body bid so I got it at less than half what the go for these days (want to say like 120+40 shipping or something). Glad I waited and looked around.

Re: super fuzz fix
Yea, I'm watching for a lowball to pop up at some point just to have a recreation of my old board in its entirety - just missing a Bee Baa and a DOD 18v Performer Phasor.
Neither of which I can't get with my clones or existing stuff, just a case of "when you're the dude who has everything else they want" you start looking at other stuff.

Ever tried a Mastotron? I've got to say, there aren't THAT many different gnarly tones inthere imo, not as many as all those controls and switches might suggest.decomposing wrote:ok. So if you want gnarly hairy bassy and end of the world

It gets REALLY low, too low if you want it to. It's no FZ-2, but it can do pretty fucking nasty and evil shit too. More in a 'superfuzz on meth' kinda way though, rather than a superfuzz kinda way.

Totally know what you mean. Sometimes my dollars wander the internet and pick up random stuff just for something to do haha.rfurtkamp wrote:Yea, I'm watching for a lowball to pop up at some point just to have a recreation of my old board in its entirety - just missing a Bee Baa and a DOD 18v Performer Phasor.

I just recreated my old setup (got an MT-2) haha...don't know why other than to be sentimental.

Re: super fuzz fix
The particular thing with the Superfuzz circuit is the transistors used makes a huge difference. The higher the gain of transistors, the splattier it gets. From my experience, you can go all the way from a "Muff with a hint of Tone machine" sound, all the way to a "blast 'o hiss before roar of power chord". The spectrum is very wide. Personally, I've experimented quite a bit with it, and I'm more of a low gain transistor fan. I prefer a more instant response when bashing a chord. As for the octave section, well matched transistors, with a trimmer for balancing, works for me. Lift the clipping diodes a bit from ground helps give a bit more grunt as well. Add a variable scoop control, and you're in business.
In the end, you might as well be better off hitting the Shark Tank, and get a reputable builder to customize one for you. As for me, my Photonic Superfuzz fulfills all that I desire in a Superfuzz.
