Aosoth - how did I miss how rad these dudes are?
After loving the new VI album I checked out related acts and stumbled on Aosoth. I remember the album cover clearly, so I must have seen it before, but holy shit. What an awesome album! Why have I not been listening to this constantly for the last two years?

I dig the music but the vocals are over the top for me. Still pretty good though! 7/10.

Re: Aosoth - how did I miss how rad these dudes are?
I'm pretty fussy with black metal vocals. I've always liked death and grind vocals, but never black. Also when I was getting into extreme metal black was still in the whole second wave Norwegian thing which was much harder for me to dig than say Hypocrisy or Napalm. But I started listening to more black metal when it started getting more kooky and less dogmatic, and now I enjoy a lot of black vocals. But it's been a long process learning to like the vocals and lofi production...
But I can totally understand what you're saying dude!
Edit: to clarify I think the production on this album is beastly. I meant getting used to dark throne style production in general, not in relation to this album.

Pretty fucking amazing.
The production is awesome too.
Stupid/irrelevant question: is this really Black Metal?

It's such a played out/gooney thing to say at this point but the shitty production is a big part of the music's atmosphere.goroth wrote:Edit: to clarify I think the production on this album is beastly. I meant getting used to dark throne style production in general, not in relation to this album.
You should check this album out -- I think you will like it.

Great band! If you like this one, check out their album III as well. Also, several of them are in the band Antaeus, who are also sick.

Yup. Aosoth is a good one. There are a handful of really cool French black metal bands. Aosoth, Deathspell Omega, Blut Aus Nord......
I don't know about Blut Aus Nord, but the other two are into some pretty hardcore occult shit (Order of Nine Angels).

The work which transforms god is one of my all time favourite albums. I never listen to it, because it's not often that I'm in the mood for that kind of brutal bleakness, but when I do... man...
Looking forward to digging into Aosoth's back catalogue. Just gotta stop listening to this one first.
Will also check out dem Ghoules DoS!
