obnoxiously large rigs for small clubs

Post by echodeluxe »

stole this idea from tgp. sue me.

post your obnoxiously large rig that you use to play small clubs and other occasions where the speaker count/wattage doesnt make sense for the size of the room.

me first!

The stage was basically 1/3 of the space in the bar. :joy:

Does a closet count? I have my amps and cabs all stacked up in there.

You know, I feel like most guitar/gear communities on the internet are always telling you to downsize. Or they're all full of people talking about how they traded their 100 watt head and 4x12 in for a 15 watt combo, or how they sold their big box DMM because they "needed the real estate...."

But this is what I like to see right here

This was my coffee shop/jazz club rig circa '91-92. Roland RE-301, '65 Bassman, 1x15 with JBL. Toss in a HM2 or Bee Baa or Blender and a junker DoD Performer 18v Phasor with a 1/4" power adapter (yea, I lived in fear of it too!)

For anywhere that I needed to get louder or that held over 1k, I added JC-120s and Twin Reverbs until the sky fell.

I play an Acoustic 370 + Peavey 215 in my apartment.

I haven't turned above 0 yet and it's still too loud sometimes.

i really want one of those old peavey artist heads. like the ones with the graphic eq and they are like 300 watts solid state.

my friend has one he triggers samples through with his drums and its super sick. sounds really huge on guitar.

I've used 2 V4s a 412 and 2 215s in a place that couldn't have been more than 300sq. feet. :idk:

What's the point of having cool gear if I can't use it excessively and in places it isn't warranted.

As soon as it gets slightly cool I put on a jean jacket because it's fucking awesome. When Indian Summer inevitably comes and the temps shoot up ten degrees I still wear my jacket because it's cool as fuck. I'm going to Phoenix next week. Probably still wear that jacket because it's cool as fuck.

So yeah. Use a wall of fucking amps because it's awesome.
