i just think making transphobic comments and then saying "nah it's just you guys are the goofiest band, right?" is a pretty pathetic backpedal

Re: What the fuck did Whirr do this time?
If I'm reading correctly that was in response to this:
"r u just sad u missed the boat on punk and play music for people with Macklemore hair who blog about bacon-infused bloodymarys?"
https://twitter.com/trannyterrorist/sta ... 0171922432
Which is kind of a fun burn. I have great fun when 'edgy' people get all uptight when someone "crosses the line" about whatever. Not talking about the band, who should be pissed or not as it, you know concerns them directly, but the solidarity step that seems very disingenuous to me. Like, Run for cover has this shirt for sale:

and this album

ERHMAGERD SO OFFENSE. PROMOTING TEEN SUICIDE AND RAPE CULTURE
Oh, wait.
Are Whirr a bunch of morons? Sure. Would they have been dropped if they'd made that tweet about Limp Wrist? Probs not. Being tolerant (or, you know, just not being a shitty person) should be self-evident, not something you have to parade.

Yeah I don't really like the notion that a lot of people (mostly just tumblr "activists") seem to have, that transphobia/homophobia/racism is way worse than just being a general asshole. Like you can be rude and selfish to everyone but as long as you ask people about their fucking pronouns then you're a good person. I guess that could sound like an "all lives matter" type of argument but when it comes to internet lynch mobs it's just like...you're all assholes, just stop.
this band fucked up tho

Re: What the fuck did Whirr do this time?
they posted a tweet saying that they gave a friend total control of their social media and it was signed by Nick Basset when he is positively the one that runs their page. pretty sure they are doneskullservant wrote:I wonder if the persona that they display online is something that they all collectively agreed on? Like I wonder if they all collectively said 'you know what would be cool, is if we talked shit and tried to start stuff with people online' or if it was just one of them that had the idea and the others were passive about it. If it was the latter, I would probably be pissed at whoever had the idea to start the persona fight about now
i'm glad i can call you a friend. even if i'll never see you again

That thing was such a half-assed shitty apology. "Yea that stuff last night was out of line, but all the other times that "guy" told people to kill themselves and other shit was totally cool!"resincum wrote:they posted a tweet saying that they gave a friend total control of their social media and it was signed by Nick Basset when he is positively the one that runs their page. pretty sure they are doneskullservant wrote:I wonder if the persona that they display online is something that they all collectively agreed on? This band has driven me up a wall for years and I'm about to pass out from all the schadenfreude here.

I have the Distressor EP by Whirl, just gonna say it's a different band.
Fuck those guys 100%. Not like they were an interesting band to begin with, but why be such dicks.
