This year I've started making singles, since independent LP production takes a million years when I do it, and when I finish I can't get anyone to give their attention to that much material. I love albums and if I had my way that's what I'd be making, but it's a lot easier to say to most people, "hey listen to this song" than, "hey listen to my 45-minute-long journey through sound." It's also a lot less disappointing when no one has time/interest to listen to even a song. Once I showed my friend a soundtrack I did, five tracks, and he listened to the first 10 seconds of each and earnestly told me "This is really cool!" So I figure I have less than a minute at most to engage someone.
