Why not a LED lighting system from a company like American DJ. Some of those system respond to music

jia. LED setups are cool, but they get expensive and take up a lot of floor space. and usually it seems like you need a huge rack of moving shtuff or a bunch of different pieces or it looks kinda low rent and WE COULD ONLY AFFORD ONE FLOOR BASED DISCO BALL.

very neat stuff, but i already get closed to overwhelmed with how much shits i have going on when we play live. ideally i want something i can do all the vidja prepwork at home, have a really simple, SMALL footprint setup that we barely have to do anything with once we get started.

From what I gather though, you can do some of this stuff on a really basic level with programs like VLC and I imagine QuickTime. There are some pro apps like QLab that offer quite a bit more features, and I think Max might offer some of this kind of thing as well.

While VJ'ing I've enjoyed using Modul8. Though I've always been there to be the Video Person and changing the loops and making magic happen and stuff like that, I think it'd be kinda easy to get a sequenced loop thing going there AND you could make videos react to the music played. Like when stuff gets louder the videos go faster or zoom in or stuff like that.

I just thought the oil thing was a cool sidenote...the guys that do that are some weird specialty that venues hire...was more just mentioning places to source a nice cheap projector...because good big ones get expensive.

I've always wanted to do projections on a sheet in front of the band like a curtain. Maybe out of a light cloth that is semi transparent/opaque.
But I am a massive wanker.

just put up a blank sheet. that's how we do it.

A guy I went to HS with has a VCR from the thrift store and a projector from the thrift store. The VCR works great because he can literally jam it in any corner (upside down or whatevs) and it works no prob. He's not getting 1080p out of it, but it is lo-fi garblings anyways.
