Saw G.L.O.S.S. last night in Oakland with no statik. Gloss was awesome. Best hardcore show I've seen in a while.

G.L.O.S.S is the best fucking band like holy shit. I am so about queer punks doing big things. Taking all of the tough guy bullshit out of hardcore one step at a time.PeteeBee wrote:Saw G.L.O.S.S. last night in Oakland with no statik. Gloss was awesome. Best hardcore show I've seen in a while.

Re: Hardcore
I haven't listened to this song in a good 2 years, still one of my favorite bands of all time.

Re: Hardcore
G.L.O.S.S. are one of those bands that even though I don't care that much for their music (and hell I'm not their target audience so why should I?) I find what they're doing so fucking awesome and inspiring. Any punk band that tells Noisey to fuck off is alright by me.
I'm sure I've told this story on here before but I once saw Jamie from Off Minor break a string during 'this is a hostage situation' and keep playing that jazzy noodle-y clean bit with his left hand while restringing with his right. Off Minor were mad. Despite the fact they blew up my bass fridge.

My coworker asked me if he was a CIS male today, due to a G.L.O.S.S. post. Poor guy couldn't wrap his head around it.

Re: Hardcore
quoted in a MRR facebook post, not sure where it's originally from:
“It’s important to me that the name of this band is ‘Girls Living Outside Society’s Shit’ cause we keep getting lumped in with bullshit. Yesterday we told VICE to fuck off. Yesterday we told the New York Times to fuck off. And not because of some self-righteous ego shit — though obviously I have an ego and am kind of self-righteous — but that shit just fucking sucks. It’s not worth it, it’s never worth it. Everything you say gets taken out of context and rearranged and misinterpreted and watered-down and compromised and we’re not trying to do that. And bands have been doing that forever and it’s not like I don’t understand the appeal and aren’t tempted by the dangling carrot or whatever but it’s fucking horseshit.“

Re: Hardcore
That's incredible. They made some comments last night that made me think they were breaking up, but it makes more sense in this context. Things like "we are about to be done playing for a while. Don't believe any bullshit you read in any bullshit music blog. Gloss will always be a band for you." Still think they might be taking a break, but I would too after finishing a 6 week tour.daseb wrote:quoted in a MRR facebook post, not sure where it's originally from:

Re: Hardcore
See, when I joined ILF, I would have thought that was quite admirable. I suppose it is, in a way. But now I'm more with D.o.S.'s thing where he was saying (in a few different threads by now) that getting your ideas out there is more important. Like... why wouldn't you want an article in NYT? I think it would be worth some horseshit if more people could hear what you were trying to say. But I suppose she's saying, it wouldn't be worth it anyway, because they'd distort your message. Anyway whatever I think of it that takes some courage for sure

Re: Hardcore
^Oversimplification. Also not particularly relevant to the post being quoted. It does come across as a bit of a rallying the base type thing - the same way some Republican presidential nominee might say "and we turned down an interview with the Weather Channel, because who wants to compromise about science?!" You're not convincing anyone that isn't already convinced, so it's just reaffirmation for the people that already think the same way you do: a situation that has changed fuck all since time immeasurable, but I don't think anyone dealing with trans issues should be critiqued for being suspicious of something like the almighty edginess of Vice Media™ who make their living peddling lifestyle tourism of "Interesting Things".
All that said, their demo is fucking fantastic.
Honestly the people that get superhungup about CIS etc. can be so much more insufferable than the meatheads they're standing in opposition to.WORMDIRT wrote:Am interested as well...casecandy wrote:LOL when did this happen?
