Any love for the music made between 1965 and 1975?

Post by Rabelais »

I think it's the very best period in pop and rock music. Ever!. The change in musical styles during that era remains unequalled. Right now I am enjoying the Grateful Dead's music. The Jefferson Airplane and Big Brother and The Holding Company are great too. And there is so much more to enjoy!. Dylan, The Beatles, Hendrix, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Yes, etc.

I mean, yeah, I guess some of those guys are ok.

I GUESS.

Note: intense sarcasm. But it's also a pretty broad question when you consider that this

was happening at the same time as Iron Butterfly, the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Donovan, etc etc were putting some pretty important stuff out.

And then there was this...

I dunno... it's just a really wide net to cast to say "d'ya like anything in here?" Yes. There's five metric tons of stuff in any net cast that wide, so yes, I do.

I am referring to bands that made a real impact. Albums included in every best of list. Not the disposable and forgettable stuff.

I think mainstream classic rock radio stations present an abbreviated/revisionist history. Not sure if that's what you're referring to.

I referring to bands and albums included in lists such as Rolling Stone's Best 500 albums of all time, or 1001 albums you must hear before you die.

To some degree the further away you get the easier it is to separate the wheat from the chaff. On the other hand Rolling Stone is a garbage barometer for taste, and any sort of curated list is, by definition, going to be revisionist history to some degree.

Sorry for me saying it, but Zepplin can suck it. Way better stuff from that era. At least more fun.

Has anyone in here heard of a band called Dirt from the mid 70's/could you hook me up with their music? A friend showed them to me a while back and they can't find the link they used.

What about an album like For All The World to See that was made during the time period but never released until 30 years later? Is Death a band that "made a real impact"? Does that mean their album is bad?

Like all the bands and musicians that Zeppelin "borrowed" from?
