I couldn't either.
I just wanted to see if I could push your giggle/rage buttons by mentioning you in a casecandy thread about music, in the same post as Neil Diamond.

I should be asleep.

(I actually think the version of Dry Your Eyes from The Last Waltz is pretty outstanding)

It was honestly tough. Kinda fun to think back though.

Never got into anyone named Neil. Sedaka, Diamond, Young.

Neil Finn was good though, in Crowded House.

Isn't it like your patriotic duty to love Neil Young?

The best Neil Young...but that is probably because of Rick James.

Dillinger Escape Plan.
First time I heard them I literally felt physically ill and wanted to throw up. Just wasn't ready for it. Now I've seen them live three times, own all their albums and listen regularly to them.

I'm getting there with black metal as a whole too. I've never been able to like it (and still don't!). But its creeping in on me, getting closer everyday. I like some "black influenced" stuff, but can't stand the real thing, yet. I bet I'll like it in 4-5years time, though.

This is also a very well-documented musical phenomenon

Personal examples: pretty much any 2000s indie band with a strong debut that immediately and comprehensively came up against the law of diminishing returns; Arcade Fire, Interpol, Vampire Weekend, The Killers, etc.

I call these "Benjamin Button bands" because my wife refuses to watch that movie because of how much hype it got. We both love David Fincher, too. Own everything else on Blu-Ray. But my cousin told her, "It changed my life, Alli," and she fake barfed and told me, "I will never watch that movie now." :idk:

Hype kills

The thing that sticks out in my mind is black metal as a whole. I hated the aesthetic, I hated the sound, thought the whole shebang was ridiculous as fuck. Moved on to assessing it based on the sound. Wolves in the Throne Room's first album ended up winning me over and I've eventually dabbled in most of its nooks and crannies, though more a breadth thing than a depth thing.
