Music Man amps with half power switch?

Post by ancientbones »

So I've heard that some of the music man amps had a half power switch, but I can't find out what models. I'm thinking of hunting one down.

Anyone have an info?

Does the low make it quieter? The combo I'm looking at right now is the HD130 212. Maybe it does the same thing?

My HD150 has one and it's useless.

I don't wanna sound rude but it makes it sound kinda crappy and cheap but he didn't really take care of it so who knows.

Yeah, I had a HD130 head for years, never liked what the lo power did, end result was muffly and thin.

Well I pulled the trigger on a Music Man 112 RD Sixty Five. 65w is more than enough for shows and should definitely be more suitable for recording for me. I'll avoid the lo power switch haha.

I had a 212 Sixty-Five in the family for a while, we used the low power switch when recording with it. No major difference except for reduced headroom. Was nice for getting a little extra overdrive.

It cuts the headroom instead of dropping actual output. I had one. They are cool amps if you like the sound. The reverb was great on mine.

Yeah that sounds right. The amp didn't lose anything, it just stopped being clean at higher settings when you used low power switch.

Yeah I'll be mostly using it as a clean platform. Apparently this has a swapped out speaker. An Eminence Rockdriver Cream? Never heard of it but maybe it'll sound good.

my band mate plays one of these and its fucking loud. its honestly too fucking loud. for anything. at practice he plays it on "2". live he plays at "2.5".

it does sound really good though.

he uses full power too like a fuckin ass.

but yeah half power is the downward selection on the standby switch. sounds good, a little quieter.

HD 130 here, very nice pedal plattform.
I always run it on full power though (pre on 3, master on 5 or 6), because BASS!
