That's awesome Nora
I've got two of them now and the rotophaze are slightly different, one is more subtle and I think the other is really close to yours....yours sounds very rich. I think Ive only done sample sounds of mine from setup of the day posting, I should do a more in-depth look at it, although I think you nailed it
It's one of my favorite non tape delays for certain.

Ooh. Roland executes scissor kick and does a hands-free jump off the mat; pauses meaningfully, looking down at Korg before heading into the next clutch.
Edit: or not. I don't think I've grokked what all is going on here.

Replaced the pads in my MPC1000 and I'm pretty sure I broke it. Can't set anything at all and the OS lost the password.
Great, grand, awesome.

I've come around on them a bit. When compared to pedal prices, they aren't bad. But I would probably have more fun with the mother 32 or the Korg MS than two of those...Dandolin wrote:Dr. Sherman Sticks M.D. wrote:http://www.rolandus.com/promos/roland_boutique/

I think I am more critical of them in terms of company direction...like which way are you going? Just throwing stuff up to see what sticks? It was just weird to me to introduce a plug-out synth thing and then introduce stand alone boxes. I dunno...I just want them to focus on one or the other.
The other thing, if I wanted a JX-3P or Juno, I would just get one. The vintage prices aren't terrible compared to modern poly synths. They's alright.
The choice of the JX-3p is odd to me. They were never really that popular (like a poor man's juno or something, and the a-juno was even lesser...but I really liked messing with mine...but it was a little boring)
I guess if you were looking for that sound, it is a cheap way to get into the hardware side for shows and stuff. Cheaper than those Yamahas too.
You'll fix it man. It will be alright. Tons of people out there and around here know about them.Strange Tales wrote:Replaced the pads in my MPC1000 and I'm pretty sure I broke it. Can't set anything at all and the OS lost the password.

On another front:
Oh, Digitech Obscura, in thine festive decorative gourd season finery, how have I slept on thee?
Glassilly did mine eye drift over thine feature set, and the fulsome rhetoric of thine marketing department didst leave me as cold as after an importunate traversal of the outer moat on St. Swithin's Day.
But dag, girl, though dost sound *fine* even in exhibitions by demo-fools whose caterwauling doth on any other occasion drive me to the solace of the poppy. Thine oscillations are as flaming angels falling to earth, and thine every degradation a crushed sonnet.
Yeah, I kinda like the way you sound.
Edit:
I hear ya lg--but as you point out, this seems to be an endemic industrial marketing disease. Those Refaces frustrate the hell outta me, and the common cure in many cases may be to stay vintage....

Wouldst that were within mine power; alas and alack, I fear I have ingested too much of the milk of the poppy to continue so....

That was awesome Dandolin!
I guess sometimes I try to stay positive. I usually stick to my first instinct but got kinda lost in decorum. Sometimes I feel like the perpetual shit talker...but I just mean it as honest criticism.
But, you know me...if I wanted a Jupiter I would go get one [I would find a way..there is always a way].
I really feel the same way about the roland euro rack effects...why not just make the 15v and make them 'plug out' instead of a bunch of similar hardware cases with software. We already know that euro rack people aren't scared of that [a few modules out there like Snazzy arduino one].
If they are going to sell software in hardware, just admit it. And stick with the interface you have.
I see their use [maybe as a touring module so you don't harm a vintage one] but they seem to be marketed at a younger hipster gen that wants something to look cool but not interrupt their post modern loft,
It all just seems like a convoluted business plan and a flawed product line.

Re: The Whatever Thread .. For Gear!!
Nah, yer all right--I don't have enough grounding in the history and mystery of synth tech to parse this stuff on first glance.
One thing I just admitted to myself this weekend though is the sad truth that the thing that excites me most about analog synths is the knobbage. Whenever I start to delve, I realize that the synth engines that really turn me on are the whacky digital ones. So I'ma just snag me a BCR2000 so I can tweak the FB-01 & Blofeld wthin an inch of their lives and save me shekels for fuzz and delay.
Though I did just take a flyer on a 30 dolla Roland S-10. Don't even know if it's Quick Disk drive is still alive or if I can run the S-10 manager on any of my 'puters (I' m thinking I might try to get Win 95 running on a Raspberry Pi so I can run that and the FB-01 editor software)....
I will just say, on the Obscura spec-dumb listening test platform, the Mothermoog sounded pretty glorious to me, one lonely oscillator and all. I haven't even heard that Roland jizawn yet, but I purely like the idea of itty bitty boxes I can hook my keybtroller to....

I guess this is pretty cool? I'm not a Orange expert in any way and haven't played any dark oranges ever but maybe this is relevant to some people

EDIT:
That's one difference

EDIT:
Other features include a transparent fully buffered effects loop...
That's one difference
