I had heard their material before but holy fuck. It was immense. Noisey with a distinct melody, droney with a distinct pulse. Slow with distinct movement. I didn't expect to be that moved by a band's set, I suppose the edible I had consumed right before their set helped me get into the right headspace. My main big boy shiny fancy pedalboard isn't going anywhere, but I now want to make a board of around five pedals, one dirt (Fuck probably) one simple reverb, a modulated delay, and maybe a Pitchfork. Oh and a looper. Add that in with a simple Microkorg setup and I think I could have a decent, semi portable rig with little to get in the way of my playing. I just need a good clangy overdrive and I'll be on my way to the new sound.
That was seriously the first band I've seen in a long time that made me think "wow, I really need to step my game up." If you get the chance to see them anytime soon I HiGHLY HIGHLY recommend it!
they played a festival here in town at the start of the month - I only got to the stage in time to catch the last droning chords of their set, but even that was pretty impressive. Your idea of the simple board is pretty close to my setup: tuner-echo dream ii clone - acid age fuzz - ct5 - ibanez ddl delay (which gets switched out with a gb24 sometimes) - fuck - ditto.
my question: has anyone ever used a super hard-on with an ampeg v series? After seeing Low and Alan's setup close up I've been thinking a lot about that pedal, but I'm not sure if it would really be that much different/better with my v2 then my fuck.
God damn it I saw them at a free show in Toronto and the drummer's hand was broken and their set sucked. They were all over the place and sloppy, which I attribute to the drummer not being on point because on the recording he's fuckin' killer. Erg. I guess I'll just have to pay to see them again... also glad they are changing their name.

I think the name is shitty but I think they're lame as fuck for changing it, too. If you pick something that's designed to court controversy (which, come on, there's no way that name wasn't picked for anything other than the uptight white college radio reaction) like that you gotta stick to your guns.
They keep getting shows canceled cause of it. & from interviews I've seen with them it honestly seemed like they were clueless (not in a good way) as to how people could be upset at their name. NOT JUST WHITE PEOPLE

I finally got to play with my new (to me) GK400B. Only through the preamp out into my mixer but I'm super stoked on how the eq sounds. Gonna get my grind on whenever I get a new cab. Speaking of, what are some good 4x10/6x10 cabs I should be on the look out for? Any 10" bass/PA speakers I should be after? The basic sound I'm after is CHUNKY. Not dark and smooth and boomy subs, but not too focused on the guitar range either. The tones on A Place To Bury Strangers' Worship are some of my favorite bass sounds.

I feel like the HLF gets really boomy without the tweeter and really shrill with it. I really like the 410he which is half an 810 and the Bergantino 610 is the end all be all for 610's for me. Also Dominion seems to do pretty good prices on cabs? He could probably make you up a rad sealed 410 that would meet all your tone descriptors.
If any of you guys are knowledge/pseudo-knowledgeable about stereo equipment for listening to music, I would appreciate your input on my quest to bong out and piss off my neighbors. viewtopic.php?f=150&t=49131
