I never liked Aussitot Mort, but I never listened to them after Montuenega. Did they ever get better?

Early Envy was so fucking good. I mean, the majority of Envy is really fucking good besides like their first release and after A Dead Sinking Story up to Recitation (Recitation has a few incredible tracks on it though). Band has a lifetime pass though.

Shit even their new album is still killing it. The riff at the beginning of this song is fucking awesome.

What year was the show? If it was during the Insomniac Doze/Abyssal/Jesu Split years I'm not gonna blame you at all.

I really love the Mort album I posted not sure if it's going to change your mind on the subject though.

Definitely a lot of hardcore influence in the early Envy stuff. I realize you've given them a pass but I straight up enjoy everything they've put out. Not being able to see them on this tour (because I'll be in Phoenix when they're in the Midwest) blows.

ITT: labelling post-hardcore as post-hardcore. You are the one getting genres wrong here. Melodic hardcore, not pop-punk. Songwriting, melody, and production value do not a pop-punk band make. Most Canadian heavy bands that pass a certain threshold of popularity take that route (cf. Protest The Hero, Billy Talent, Boys Night Out, Moneen, Grade; all respected, all were very "punk"/DIY, all sound(ed) polished).

Envy blur genres, and it would be fair to categorize them a lot of different ways, but honestly I think if they weren't from Japan, and were in a more recognizable "screamo" scene in America or Europe, based on their music people would just call them screamo. I fucking love Envy. But I have my head up my ass so.

Swamp Thing is fucking blistering. I'm so bummed they broke up before I moved here.

Also, did you post Ten Grand? This is such an incredible album. One of the most interesting things I've heard in a while.

https://vicexnyhc.bandcamp.com/ this EP is really heavy, I'm digging a lot of the sludgier hardcore stuff that's been coming out lately. Hopefully I'll be starting a blackened hardcore project in the next couple of weeks.

Early Envy has its tendrils more in hardcore than it does any of the ambient stuff of their more recent outputs.

I only got to see them once, but when I did, woah boy.

Yea, Ten Grand is the best! They were called The Vidablue before, but some dudes from Phish bought the name from them for... you guessed it, $10000. The breakdown on the first song on this album is so fucking good.

RIP to Matt Davis. Never met him and I'm bummed I never will. I have never heard a bad story about the guy though, and thats from people all over the world.
