Might just give the iPad a try. The mrs is learning uke and wants to do a cute two piece thing. I think I'll babel to pull a richer drum machine and pads sound that I can play bass over then from an actual synth in my price range.

I think I have a 2? It has the lightning connector. If you're willing to sell or send me the link for it I'll definitely pick one up

Do not underestimate the potential of a simple old casio keyboard with a few well-selected pedals. Seriously, magical things can happen for cheap when you already have the pedals.

Totally -- I had an old MT-68 that was pretty good for the "kidsounds." And if you want an actual synth then the CZ series are fun and can be had for pretty cheap.

Not to derail, but speaking of MT-68's: Sherms did you see this guy on CL? Saw it and immediately thought of you: http://rochester.craigslist.org/msg/5228438939.html

The Lightning cable/connection started with the iPad with Retina display so you're at like 4th generation, basically. Which is probably a pretty good spot to be at as technology advances. This way you'll be able to use some stuff that may be more taxing on older versions of the hardware. Having an iPad already gives you a leg up because a cheap keyboard and headphones can let you dabble for a lot less money.

Good thread, I've been meaning to buy an old Casio for fun for a while. Will look into. I have a Korg X50 which I haven't used in like a year and a half because I can't find the power cord. I should start looking for that again too or break down and buy one.

haha i wish. i wonder how much they were trying to get for it. bet those inspired the op1 some.

i've always wanted a VSS30. looks like a radder SK1 style. a friend of mine had one and blew me away w/ the sounds u could make on it, just twisting your voice going AHH or something. then Sigur Ros had to go and make them popular and now they are pricey :mope:
