I just scored one on Ebay for $75 and plan sand/refin for a custom tele build, so I was just wondering how it feels, how it plays, if the frets needed leveling, if they were flush with the neck or stuck out at all..
I do hear good things about this model. I doubt John 5 would knowingly slap his name on some crap.
Chinese Squiers have been seriously stepping up their game in recent years, it seems. I'm assuming, quality-wise, that it will be on-par with a basic MIM neck.
The Mascis Squier is a nice guitar for the money. I don't like the flat neck finish or the fact that the body is basswood, but it plays fine.

I played the black one. I think the neck was the same exact neck as the classic vibes tele custom. So on the thin side. I would have bought it but the gold one exists and i mean come on its gooooollldddddd

They're both gorgeous though. The neck that I got, it's from a gold one.SPACERITUAL wrote:I played the black one. I think the neck was the same exact neck as the classic vibes tele custom. So on the thin side. I would have bought it but the gold one exists and i mean come on its gooooollldddddd
So, sort of like a typical strat neck. Nice. I'm a fan of those. The radius on this one is 12" as opposed to the 9.5" of the classic vibe, but as far as I understand that doesn't make a world of difference. I guess people say that you can bend without fretting out more easily on a 12". Or something.
I have huge sausage-fingered hands, and for whatever reason I feel like I can get more articulate with thinner necks. They feel way more comfortable to me than an LP baseball bat neck. If I ever had a Les Paul-style guitar built, the body would be chambered and the neck would be tapered to strat-ish spec, along with other features that would make Les Paul purists want to choke me. Like a 6 in-line headstock and a strat tremolo bridge. Basically it would just be a strat with a different body shape.
