The coolest pedalboard ever?

Post by ThurberMingus »

So I got this idea from pedals that I've owned/flipped/liked a lot that didn't quite stick on my board. I have an awesome pedalboard and I am happier with my tone currently than I ever have been before. Unfortunately none of my pedals are really that cool/special of have to much of a personal touch.
I had an idea to build a small board of pedals that define the best small scale builders around. It'd be no bigger than a PT-Jr and it would be nothing but flat out awesome pedals that define the people that make them.

So far my list has three pedals that have stood out to me above all else:

SS/BS - Fuck Overdrive. Seriously the coolest overdrive ever. It defines Brian's sound and aesthetic better than anything else in his lineup. A pedal I regret getting rid of every day and I WILL own again.

Montreal Assembly - Count to Five. This revolutionary needs no introduction. You all know what it does, you all love it. You all wish you were smart enough to list one for $666 on Reverb.

Industrialectric - RM-1N. Such a cool, unique, and versatile reverb pedal. Truly unlike anything else. A must.

What kind of amazing one of a kind pedals would you put on a board like this? Honestly I think between my budget and what I have truly been blown away by I might be limited to these three, but figure this is a good place to discuss a board consisting of revolutionary pedals made by small-scale builders. What would you put on a board like this? I realize a lot of you own these pedals and have boards consisting of lots of awesome effects from awesome builders, but I'm going for a strict theme here.

Pretty much exactly what I'm shooting for with my current set-up...as many possibilities as possible in a small space

Trogotronic 669cv
LAL 88, Octavella (I don't know if it is one of the best of all time, but it is unique)
Snazzy FX stuff
And a lot of what everyone else has said...

But if it were just what I like
Gomorrah, 669cv, 679, Octavella, Warmjet V, Rush Pep Box, Rattle Crow, I dunno...

I guess Seppuku gets excluded because they aren't anymore (sorry UC).

Discontinued stuff....memory loss, rattle crow, SPK, ummm....

Okay, I'll be that guy...

FZ-2. Superfuzzes beat everything else. The FZ-2 is the ultimate superfuzz that doesn't actually really sound like a classic superfuzz. Eq, a boost mode. It's the shit. The fact that it's as un-bootique as it gets, is just a sweet bonus. Cheap, compact, indestructable, and easily available even though the stopped making em decades ago.

Dano Fabtone. Nasty filthy distortion, just aweful. As far as dirt peds go, it's probably the exact opposite of a klon, in every single wat. Anything that fits that description is okay in my book.

Small stone V4. Cause not everyone wants his phaser pedal to be a gigantic tricked out mothermucker that looks like the control panel of an alien space craft.

CE-1/CE-2: Depending on yer budget, and on how big of a chorus/vibrato nut you are.

My taste in reverb/delay chenges every 5 minutes, but right now, disregarding real pricey shit (moog, eventide, Maxon, etc)....

Analog delay: Supapuss, ES-2. Longer delay times than anything else out there, unless maybe if you spend three or four time as much...
Reverb....Though I wouldn't really call it that: Afterneath. The RM-1N is infinitely cool; but the Afterneath just makes so much sense for everyone who's bored with 'real' plate/hall/spring type reverbs, but thinks the RM-1N is way overkill for that occasional eery/trippy sound here and there. Cheapish, small and pedalboard friendly, and from one of the nicest pedal building crews in the business.

I'd also add the Freeze to the list, but I'm kinda out of the loop when it comes to similar effects that for all I know do a similar thing, only better.

Yeah, the RM-1N did not make sense to me in a board setting, despite being one of the coolest pedals I ever played. A world unto itself. That is why I am currently having another one built..........that runs off of batteries.
