Musket v Hoof?

I need a new Muff. Always liked muffs and they work well with Rats. These are the two I'm looking at. I play shoegazey indie rock and occasionally play teh brootz. Right now I use a Klone I built (turns out my setup is dependent on that fucking buffer :facepalm ) and a modded Rat. Rat is my main dirty tone, and I use the Klon to boost it for leads and shit, now I need something for heavy/real loud parts. Here is what I'm finding so far:

Musket pros:
Tweakable/versatile
Acceptable footprint
Reportedly has a very tight sound
Super cool silver knobs
Demos sound awesome

Cons:
More spendy
Might have *too much* tweakability (which lead my to part with my Elements)
Sidemount jacks

Hoof pros:
Cheaper
Top mount jacks
Less controls - easier to dial in

Cons:
I wasn't as impressed by the demos as I was for the Musket.
Knobs aren't as fancy :PP

I'll be using a Jazzmaster or Mustang into a JCM2000 DSL (clean/barely breaking up)

I'm open to suggestions, but these both tick boxes in terms of size and price. I absolutely need something this size as my board isnat capacity as is. Tell me how to live brothers!

Musket can do a little bit more/cop more TOANZ. I preferred the Musket, it also sounds a little more raw, plus with the pregain control you can tame it if you want

Even with all the knobs I still found the Musket to be pretty easy to dial in.

Just sold my Musket. I tried my share of muffs, and the musket was by far the most useable one to me. Meaning it managed to sound muff-ish, without completely drowng in a mix. The 'versatile' adjective is tossed around a lot when it comes to peds, but in this case I'd have to agree, the Musket can do ridiculous gain levels, or sound more distortion-y, or anything in between. Doom, sludge, DSOTM, you name it, not a problem for the musket. Rather smooth though, so steer clear if you're after something that nails the sovtek tone or whatever. What I really liked that I couldn't find in the other muffs I tried so far: It oozes with gain. Max both controls and even my weak ass jazzmaster was saturated and filthy. Something I normally used an axtra drive pedal for. So in a way, the musket saved me a bit of board space, or pedal dancing.

Out of all my pedals, the musket jusyt seemed like the easiest one to sell and to replace. Plus, I'm not much of a muff guy, even if the muff in question is awesome at what it does.

A couple small caveats though: To my ears, the focus control didn't change a whole lot. And there's basicly two tone knobs, which seem to roughly do the same job, in a different way. Not sure if that makes sense at all, but they both kinda act like regular tone controls, turn em clockwhise and you add mids/grit, or counter clockwhise for more low end and woolyness

Dito for the two gain controls. Still a versatile muff, but it's kind of a shame those three controls don't have more of an impact. I'm sure that's just me though, a bizillion people dissagree ith me on this. To be clear: I might still get me another musket someday, it didn't at all dissapoint. Just don't let those controls fool you, for all we know the hoof is almost just as versatile

I also sold my Elements cause it felt like 8 pedals in one small package with just one switch. When you need to take your dirt pedal's manual with you when you're gionna play a show, you know you gott flip that mahfakka

I already hit a duder up about a Musket on Reverb, I just had to confirm my suspicion with fuzzbreaux. It's been a while since I had one on board. Add in a mids knob and I'm set. Ragged Trousers almost always had a Musket on his board didn't he?

Definitely Musket. Don't get overwhelmed by the controls. Basically, the bottom 3 knobs are the normal knobs you find on every Muff. The top 3 are mostly about taming the the Muff and/or making it cut through a live mix. The Pregain knob is for taming it or pushing it, the Mids knob fixes the screwed up EQ that Muffs have, and the Focus just tightens it up and makes it not so sloppy/flubby/loose.

I love the Musket side of my Twosome. But, word on the street is that the Blunderbuss is better. I also really, really like the sound of the Hoof. Almost bought one of those.

having played both I like the musket more, but the cloven hoof seems to sounds better than the normal one, maybe check it out too.

Hey maaaaaaaaan. Yeah, I've used a Musket an absolute ton, but right now I'm using a Blunderbuss and digging it. Bit more raw sounding, more treblez and a ton more volumez The Pre control is really great if you're using low output pickups, I use it a lot. I've used a zillion different Muffs, and always came back to a Musket/B'buss. They're maybe not the cool kid Muff anymore, but damn, Blackout nailed the fuck out of that circuit.

I think it's the ideal pedal for both Gaze and Br0000tz.

Having owned both, I liked the hoof a lot more. To me it was meaner and bigger and had a lot more character. And way more volume available.

Having tried both I have to agree, the Hoof is a fuzz, the Musket isn't really as it sounds more like a distortion.
