Aside from being by far one of my favourite Melvins releases, A Senile Animal also sports some serious tonez, like this bass fuzz thing. It's in numerous songs, but best heard in History of Bad Men
In that case it has been sent through an additional EQ and heavy compression before the dirt pedal. Personally I doubt that we hear the ODB-3 in this recording. The ODB-3 is an overdrive with a more dynamic sound.
Man I gotta get into the Melvins late catalog! Loved this song hearing it right now. The only thing that bugs me about late Melvins is it's not as good as early Melvins, but I gotta let go of that cuz it's still better than almost everything.
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Jared uses a malekko b:assmaster or the og maestro brassmaster. I think I've seen him with the malekko with Big Business.
Sounds quite a lot like a Brassmaster. Very grainy and "dry" sound. But it has obviously been processed a million times before it went on youtube.
I think it sounds kinda similar to the fuzzdog clone I built for my bass rig: https://youtu.be/2KZGEYiFs9A?t=71

Personally I thought the ODB3 sounded nothing like an overdrive with guitar. I found it grindy and metallic. I had a muff around the same time and found they shared a mid scoop, but the Boss had a much tighter bottom end. My bassist was only ever able to get that H (Tool) bass sound with it, so I don't know much on that end.
What gets me about the mix on some of this album is how much more of the bass I catch. With Buzzo's vocals, I barely hear the guitar over the bass sometimes.

absolutely true. Also seems like the bass is getting more "important". But that might be the evolution of mixing in general, too

If you want fuzzy bass you generally have to clean up the guit a little.
I would argue bass is important on every Melvins record and has not been neglected by any one of their plethora of bassists.
WWPD?
