Memorising lyrics
Ok guys, how are you memorising your lyrics?
I suck at remembering my own lyrics.

It's ok to just sing the lyrics to Mongoloid over and over again.

Re: Memorising lyrics
practice?
I sometimes just groan when I forget haha
I trip out on CTTS cause they nail every fucking lyric and basically have no repetitions. don't think it comes down to much more than that/actually being meaningful enough for you to remember
I have to play and go through the lyrics at the same time while learning/practicing or it just won't stick.

(I'm so good at memorizing lyrics I had someone else do it...too shitty at guitar to do two things at once and too tone deaf to sing)

Re: Memorising lyrics
buying a music stand to have at practice was the best thing I ever did for this now I'm in a band where I just shout instead of scream so you can actually make out what I'm saying.
Singing through the songs in my head while I'm riding my bike home from work helps me memorize them.

I do pretty well! Lyrics are the only part of songwriting that doesn't suck major ass for me so I take a lot of pride in them

When I was singing is write lyrics so that they told a quick story and you could remember the progression of the song by the progression of the story.
Another handy tool is to listen to the song and for each part pick an element that stands out for you and tie it to a theme. Like "oh yeah, this bridge sounds like dead tree branches scraping on a car window, so I should write some evil dead sounding shit" etc.

Re: Memorising lyrics
in our previous band my friend/guitarist used to have his lyrics on pieces of paper on the ground. Which would mean shuffling them before every song. When we started this band where we both sing again but it's more 70/30 me to him, I told him he wasn't allowed to do that. He got bummed until I was like 'axl uses a teleprompter...do you want to be him?'.

Re: Memorising lyrics
I usually learn the wrong or at least what sounds like the lyrics from listening/singing along to songs. Then eventually I sit down and read them. Sometimes I've heard everything correctly, but most of the time not, so when I actually get to read them while listening to the song I get kind of an "aha!"-experience (does that expression exist in english too?) and then remember most of it just because of that.
