The Warmpler Euphoria overdrive is a good option. Great tone section with a separate bass control and 3 different diode clipping options. Goes from very mild to very crunchy. I built a clone as a bit of a joke I dubbed the Cock Sniffer. The joke ended up on me because it really is an awesome sounding and versatile overdrive.

I think I've heard of this before. Someone recommended i check out the Timmy or a Moog MF Drive too.KaosCill8r wrote:The Warmpler Euphoria overdrive is a good option. I'm curious about rats, are there any decent priced rats that are like better rats? I know the new rats are ok but there's so many variants out there. I've heard of the Fuzzrocious stuff but I'm sure that's way out of what I'm willing to shell out ($100-$150 at most really). I'm still a little interested about how a klone would sound with my amp too. Maybe I'll try a Soul Food and see how it is. My friend's old soul food was kind of shoddy though. I'd rather support a builder than some big company anyways.
Hell, if you guys know any Detroit builders I love supporting my local scene. I'd be all over Jext-Telez stuff if they made some cheaper pedals.

So I tried out a rat 2 in a store compared with a soul food and I liked the rat a lot better, but it sounded really really harsh at almost any setting. But at least it didn't suck away all the bass like the soul food did. I liked the response of the soul food, just wish it didn't take away so much low end.

Add drums, bass, another guitar and you will praise that "harshness".ancientbones wrote:but it sounded really really harsh at almost any setting.

Yeah I suppose. I was hoping to get a smoother overdrive sound out of like Yo La Tengo pulls off. Couldn't really do it well.ramonovski wrote:Add drums, bass, another guitar and you will praise that "harshness".ancientbones wrote:but it sounded really really harsh at almost any setting.

I've been trying to find more info on what Blonde Redhead used in the mid to late 90's but I haven't come up with much. I see they use a BD-2 and an MXR Distortion II these days. Maybe that could get me in the ballpark of tone I'm looking for? I'm really into Polvo, Blonde Redhead, and Yo La Tengo's sounds.

OCD is a pedal that I enjoyed at low volumes with a Champ but didn't liked at loud volumes with a Twin, it just gets lost.
I haven't found a pedal that I enjoyed straight into an audio interface, try with digital stuff maybe.

Re: Lower-Mid Overdrives?
Oh I'd still be recording like a 4x12 with my big solid state amp. I've owned an OCD before and while it had a little more bass than the soul food i tried today, it still definitely took away some bass. When it got cranked that bass kind of came back but by then it was just all muddy and weird sounding. I had a v4. I've heard earlier versions didn't really have this problem as much, but I'm not gonna shell out that kind of money for an older one. They're like double the price now.ramonovski wrote:OCD is a pedal that I enjoyed at low volumes with a Champ but didn't liked at loud volumes with a Twin, it just gets lost.
