Tuners for big ass strings?

Post by gunslinger_burrito »

So I just put together a baritone, and still would like to experiment with using weird/LOW tunings, but I wondered if any of you know where to get tuners that will fit bass-sized (.75-.95, probably) strings. I guess I could look for bass tuners, but unless I'm being ignorant (likely....) it seems that I've only ever seen bass tuners with smaller shafts than guitar tuners.... The ones I would be after will have to fit pretty standard-sized tuner-holes.

I know some of you have done this.....come holler at me! Thanks

For my bassVi's stupid-huge strings I salvaged two crappy bass tuners and slapped them on the headstock, but I've also had success with drilling ever-so-slightly larger holes in normal guitar tuners. Depends on how thick the metal is on the sides.
Any bass tuner should definitely work, if you go that route :idk:

Check out the Grover 102 series:

I have them on my Bass VI. The low E is a 90 and it's got some room to spare.

I use Wilkinson EZ-Locks from GFS, really good tuners. What I do is I unravel a bit of the winding from the heaviest strings, just enough to thread them through the post holes, and that's it.
