Do you think maybe that joining a school or whatever might be more incentive to stick with it? Personally, I've never been good with sticking to book routines... if I was, I might actually have learned some scales or something and actually know how to play guitar, instead of just winging it and hoping nobody notices.

I tend to do better on my own, I'm sure eventually I will join a school, but the only one around here is...iffy <.<
I'd rather spend my money on this and only have myself to blame, ya know?

if you want a martial art that is 100% practical, check out krav maga. there are schools almost everywhere, and it has a major emphasis on real-world application. you even train in street clothes.

then again, if it's just to lose weight wing chun is pretty hyperactive, but i'd recommend muay thai. it's versatile, useful, and intense.

but whatever works man. good luck!

Yo HT, you can do it! I went from 250lbs to around 175lbs. I'd recommend you also explore some changes in diet along with the martial arts.

Looks cool. Best of luck! Like some other people said, it would probably be worthwhile to see if there is anything unhealthy you can cut out of your diet, like fried foods or sugary snacks. And don't feel like you have to do anything drastic; start exercising three days a week and cut out an afternoon snack and then move on from there in a few weeks. Just set reasonable attainable goals and you'll do great!

Aye aye!
I'm drinking the costco brand weight loss shakes twice a day in place of a meal, and sometimes in place of a snack, and drinking between 1.5 and 2.5 liters of water. Till the books get here I'm just doing cardio stuff and going over the little JKD and Wing Chun I already know, plus sit ups and chasing my dog around lol.

Losing weight is easy. I lose at least 40 lbs a year! Then I put on 30, just so I can lose it again. Mathematically, this should eventually work in my favor.

Seriously, diet matters more than exercise. I don't know your habits but I would start by drinking no soda at all. In fact I only drink water, and some coffee, on a typical day. The exercise will definitely help with overall good-feelingness, and cholesterol levels. But if you eat like crap you will never lose weight. I used nutrisystem and dropped from 265 to 215, and kept most of it off for years through the lessons I learned, plus exercise. I put back on some lbs but nowhere near where I was, and I pay attention to what I eat because each year that passes makes it harder to stay in shape.

you are on the right track, but as many have said diet is very important. candy, chips, soda, energy drinks and such are bad. i was 236 in 2008 and dropped 25 pounds in about 2-3 months with minimal exercise and cutting out the doritos and chips ahoy and monsters... i have been able to keep all of that off with out much real exercise and bounce around 210 now. :joy:

i have had a few friends that got in shape pretty quick with that P90X thing but it is painful at first!!!
