EDIT: Ahem, I just sent you a PM about how torrenting is very, very, naughty! :thumb:

Besides, Fruity Loops is like painting by numbers. Drum loops are the bane of good music. Unless I use them, of course. ;)

Ummmmm.... not if you use your own samples and try to come up with interesting patterns other than BOOM-CHK-BOOM-CHK-BOOM-CHK.

and you'll probably only end up "painting by numbers" and making unoriginal beats if you are only using the main window, which is not any different from an x0x box, only it's done with a mouse... Open up the piano roll and chop that shit the fuck up. You can get as surgical as you want to with it and make some sick breaks/glitches....... dawg.

Also, fuck Protools! That's all they ever teach people in studio-related courses now. I never needed anything but tape/minidisc recorders, a wave editor, and FL Studio for mixing and mastering!

Polished sound = boring sound! HUZZAH!

</making an ass of me>

But, seriously, I think it's just fashionable to disdain FL Studio and act like anyone who uses it is a hack who can't figure out other software or something (and with no real rhyme or reason). Who's making you use it?

Also, it gets better and more "pro" with every version, and it only "seems like a toy" if you don't delve into it more... and so what? IT'S A FUN TOY! :)
I admit the interface is more decorated and geared towards ravers and Souja Boy, but that doesn't have any relevance, much less change the fact that you can do more with it than this:

Umm, I was joking you know. :poke: I do my drums on a Fantom G6 so I can add some randomness to the sounds. I play live, no step entry and never fully quantize. It gets me fine, but not great results

Forgive my tarding out. I understood you were joking with the whole self-exclusion comment, but it's not untrue that plenty of people say the exact same things you said. FL is perfectly fine for how I use it, and I just never appreciated the douchey attitude I get from people for not being "prooooooo" by using FL for mixing/mastering my shitty music (i.e., not following the latest expensive software recording trends because I never NEEDED to).

Either way, I shouldn't even care if people don't like it. People who think being "pro" means taking a digital recording course where they learn how to use Protools and then act like they are experts are STOOPIT.

Not saying that's you, just that I get annoyed by people who do... but I spend a lot of the time in the music/arts building on campus, so I'm always overhearing people's obnoxious conversations about such things.

Maybe it's just that I hate musicians because I'm not one of them, but the ones I hear are SOOOOO boring when it comes to music and recording. They always want to make, like, MUSIC and record it with "PRO" equipment and be all polished and stuff. No one ever wants to talk about sticking a subwoofer on a piano's soundboard and blasting sine waves through it, or deep-frying contact mics dipped in tempura batter, or using something other than plugins for "WARM" (ugh) and "BUTTERY" (double-ugh) "tape sound"... They don't want to talk about anything that's actually fun because "FUN" isn't "PRO"... :mad:

As a matter of fact, they seem to discourage shit like that.

Don't worry, raytownian. We will have the last laugh when our own music sounds so good that noone will even care (or know). BTW, I will be mixing on Adobe Audition, not on the Fantom.

Here's a laugh - a friend asked me if Swervedriver used programmed drums on Mezcal Head. Sometimes, when you're too good, everythinks you must be cheating or taking the "easy" way out. You and I know how freakishly hard it is to make sampled drums sound dynamic.

Just keep on your chosen path. You will succeed!
