Go for gold - Grand Orbiter or Whetstone.

You want versatility and ILF awesomeness - Get a Whetstone
You want cheap and simple - Get a Small Clone or Phase 90
You want crazy and noisy - Get a 4ms Phaseur Fleur
You want the most expansive phaser - Get a Prophecysound Infinitiphase
You want mid-range reliability - Get an Earthquaker Devices Grand Orbiter

Yeah I GASed for a Whetstone for ages, but the Grand Orbiter has killed that off. Love it.

You also might want to think about an EHX Stereo Polyphase. Crazy versatile, tons of options and modes, expression pedal input

Moogerfooger? Love mine. Seems like they turn up used for decent prices pretty regular. If you have other CV gear these are even better yet.

Whetstone for small stone fans
Orbiter for phase90 fans
Can't go wrong with either one

+1
I fall on the phase 90 side of the fence, but even more so on the DOD 490 side of that fence. It sounds great, but if you want something similar with better flexibility then the grand orbiter would be the one to get. The whetstone does sound amazing, though, if you're into that kind of phase.

Hey I'm the same way, I like my pedals like my women, simple sleek and sexy... But the whetstone is worth the extra time to figure out, mine is going nowhere.... And just like a complicated woman: once you figure her out, you look at her differently... Damn do I need to get laid or something..?
Someone ask me about taxes, see if I use women for the analogy...

How come nobody mentioned the EH Hoax? Talk about an intense pedal... geez. I've had mine for like three months now and I'm still trying to figure it all out. It's super fun when slapped with an SM with the chaos switch on, I gotta say.

cool pedlol, but it sucked the tonez...i know a buffer would probably have done the trick but that wasn't an option for me at the time so i flipped it..

Whirlwind Orange Phaser is a vintage Phase 90, one knob, hand wired, sounds great, costs $100. Go!
