Hey, the delay pedal thread gave me an idea yesterday for a new device that I would be interested in producing, and I wondered if a) there is already anything out there like this, and, b) if there would be much interest in something like this if I made a few.

Ok, so my idea is to make a sort of "clean blend module" that you can plug any fx pedal into (obviously one that does not have a built-in clean blend knob) and it would allow you to blend between your clean tone and the effect. It would basically be a true bypass loop/clean boost pedal. I know a lot of people like clean blends (especially bass players) and while many dirt pedals have clean blend knobs, I didn't know if anyone out there would buy something that allowed you to add a clean blend to a pedal that doesn't (kind of the way the beavis audio deVolt allows you to add a starve knob). What do you all think? Anything like this already on the market?

Arg, I figured someone had done it already! However, that pedal is $219. Would anyone possibly be interested in one of these if it was around $50 and had some badass artwork?

I also had another idea along similar lines for an aby box-type thing that would allow you to plug two different fuzzes into it, split your signal, send it separately into each fuzz and back to one output, allowing you to stack and blend fuzzes rather than just putting one into another. Does that sound doable/original?

If you can do a blend cheaper, it will probably sell.
I dig utility fx, but I always feel like they should be relatively cheap.

there are quite a few of those out there, all with varying degrees of additional features, etc...
wounded paw and barge concepts both make nice looking blend pedals.

i'll hopefully have one of these coming out later on in the year as well...

I'm going to start messing around with the idea, breadboarding some different boost circuits to see what works best as well as maybe seeing about adding some switches for a feedback loop option or for adding clipping to the boost. If I think it sounds good and can be produced that cheaply, I'd like to do some limited runs or something like that. I really woundn't want to put out something too similar to something that another boutique builder is doing, though, especially an ilf builder like smallsound. I'm a big fan. But if mine offers a more stripped down or slightly different version, then I might make a few. No plans for like, mass-production, though; and I'm sure that anything smallsound/bigsound comes out with will be much more classy and well worth any extra cost.


Edit: checked out the Barge Concepts pedal, dual footswitch clean blend and feedback loop for $120--very nice.

So can you talk about what you have in mine SSBS? Have a general time frame envisioned for when it might come out?
