The Monomachine, like all Elekton stuff is amazing!
The Machinedrum is my favorite drum machine of all time.

The monomachine is a very deep and amazing piece of gear. It and the Machinedrum are 2 deeeeep sound machines. They are the only digital pieces in my studio, and they arent going anywhere. If you can find one used for a good price I vote go for it. The Mk2 is useful if you want to load your own waveforms, but since its release the Mk1 prices have come right down, and I didnt feel the MK2 added enough extra functionality for the extra $$$. On the other hand, the Machinedrum really benefits from having the Userwave function, it really opens up its functionality to a drum machine AND a really cool sampler as well. I got my mono MK1 about 6 months ago for $600 US, which is a great price for what it offers, but Ive seen them cheaper still since. The only criticism I have read about the Monomachine is that people think it sounds a little sterile, even digital . Well it is digital, and you can always process it - a nice preamp can really make it sing! I tend to think it sounds precise and clinical, whereas my analogue gear sounds warm, and well, fuzzy

Thanks for the info Benny. I think a MK1 would be perfect for me. Any good sources for used ones that you know of other than ebay?

The Elektron Users Forum (http://elektron-users.com) is pretty useful, they crop up here fairly regularly, havent been watching prices there as much since I got mine. Also Muffwiggler less frequently (http://www.muffwiggler.com), and Analogue Heaven mailing list (which is where I got mine) even less frequently.

I am seeing one for sale at the Elektron message board. Will see if I can get it for a fair price.
