So this week on Pitchfork they're showing this documentary called People Who Do Noise, that's all about the Portland Noise scene, and some of its various bands. They talk about their music and what they think of the noise scene and the noise aesthetic in general. It's pretty cool, check it out if you have time/are into this kind of music.

I have to be honest, I watched this several months ago and thought it kind of sucked, save for 1-2 interviewees that weren't involved with Smegma... Though the Smega interviews I did enjoy.

There was a debate about this doc on Noiseguide... I tend to agree with one poster who complained about the pretentious nature of a lot of those interviewed... It just seemed like a bunch of annoying pseudo-intellectual/artist types trying WAY too hard to justify what they were doing while not really saying anything... but that's just my take...

Don't let my bitching spoil it, folks...

I just couldn't avoid cringing throughout most of it... But, well, a bad Noise doc. is better than NO Noise docs!

Didn't watch it, but felt the same way about a lot of local noise artist. A lot of people did...and most those artist are gone and the ones left are those that are actually doing something.

The funny thing about it is, some of the interviewees are pretty well-established, and (to my knowledge), relatively long-standing Noise musicians (not referring to Smegma... they've existed since before I was BORN)...

I saw it a while back. Thought was ok... I didn't find any the the featured to be doing anything really new. Other then Smegma I found all the others to sound rather generic.

i'm glad someone else knows of them and likes them. they're a bit different than other noise-oriented groups i've heard.

I don't know too much of their stuff. I have one of their CD's (arcana selections...), a friend of mine discovered them through a myspace record trade. Damn awesome CD, that is.
