I just remembered Aen's screechy guitar from TGD video. Is that a mod, and is there any possible alleviation upon the subject?
or was it just TGD?

Volume/tone pots on the guitar.

And here I thought you were going to ask how I got that amazing wailing witch tone on "zombies of the sand forest"

I'm pretty sure that was a sub-$300 CAD mic kit plus a distance mic. Mixed down to a stereo signal )2 track interface FTL). Then I added slight compression, and various levels of dirt, depending on the mood.

I think i need to mess with my mic placement more. What kind of room were you using for that?

fairly big room with wood on the walls. In my experience, as long as you get the basic essence of the drum o. The close
mic (sharp snare, thud on the bass) the distance mic gives the "real" sound and whallop.
