"Nearly 1 in 10 seven- to eight-year-olds hears voices that aren't really there, according to a new study.

But most children who hear voices don't find them troubling or disruptive to their thinking, the study team found. "These voices in general have a limited impact in daily life," Agna A. Bartels-Velthuis of University Medical Center Groningen in The Netherlands wrote in an email to Reuters Health.

And parents whose children hear voices should not be overly concerned, she added. "In most cases the voices will just disappear. I would advise them to reassure their child and to watch him or her closely."

hahaha...this just struck me as so weird and I had to share.
I think I had a good imagination, but I don't remember hearing voices as a kid...kinda think it's too bad for me. :/

I think hearing voices is crossing a line. An imaginary one. I think that's something for a parent to be concerned about.

I never heard voices, but right around that age, I would see weird visual effects happen when I was trying to fall asleep (but definitely still awake).

Joan of Arc used to hear voices... she considered them her advisors and said that the voices came directly from Heaven. They helped her concoct military strategies and decide who not to trust. This wasn't considered a sickness by those around her. And she was burned for being a heretic because her voices sometimes told her to do things her way and not the church's way.

The point I'm trying to make is that hearing voices isn't an unusual thing, especially for those that are young and still believe in the impossible. The voices might just be a child's way of coping with things he/she doesn't yet understand. I wouldn't want to medicate a child over something like this unless I noticed a dangerous twinkle in their eye or in their actions.

I seem to remember the president of a large country recently talking about how someone was telling him what to do on a daily basis to catch the evil doers...
