So my bandmate wants to trade me...

My bandmate has been playing my MIJ Jaguar with Fender USA pickups and mustang bridge. He's in love with it and is begging me to sell it to him for 600 or trade him his amp, a Fender Blues Deluxe reissue and a Black Russian Big Muff.
Live I usually use my Jazzmaster (cuz the mids cut the best) and my Telecaster (for that sparkle). I'd say that in a live situation the scoopier Strat like tone of the Jag is a little more annoying but I love the way it takes fuzz, especially when I record. What do you think? I love my Jag, I really do, I especially love that beautiful chrome, but I feel like he's really driving a hard bargain.
So opinions...this?

and this?

for this??

I wouldn't. That's one groovy guitar. You seem more attached to the guitar than the prospective new gear anyway. Besides, if he's yer bandmate and yer in the studio, you can use that big muff and that amp anyway.

True, I am attached to it, as little as I play it. It's like a beautiful girl; I can just stare at it for days. Though I love the Blues Deluxe...if I had to get a good clean Fender combo that wasn't a pricey vintage piece, I'd get this amp.
Here's my reasoning for getting the amp in particular. I'm in two bands. The one band he is in is mostly instrumental, proggy, post rocky kind of band. My other band (my baby) is a shoegazey, dream-poppy band. In particular, I'm looking to possibly run that Fender combo on clean along side my JCM 800 stack when I'm going full bore on the fuzzes, you know, to add some definition and clarity. My singer often complains that she like more clarity in my chord playing because (of course) I'm play a lot of open, droning chord voicings (I personally don't find it to be that big of a deal, though obviously I can hear what I'm playing, because I'm playing it). So I was thinking that fender on clean could really open up some of my hazier, fuzzier progressions. Also, stereo effects maybe?

from my interpretation of it seemed he really doesn't seem to be into teh Jag. & teh fact he is even considering trading it one could infer that subconsciously he doesn't want it. let someone else have it that would appresh it moar; plus, he already haz a Jazzmaster & a Tele: seems like a no-brainer?

guitars are meant to be played not STARED at. seems like a no brainer. you would actually be using teh Fender amp, while you don't like the Jag live & you barely play it.
am i missing something here? you've already made teh case for teh trade IMO all you have to do now is CLOSETHEDEAL.

I know yer pain, man. I've got a buncha stuff lyin around that I'm not using but don't wanna sell/trade 'cuz it's pretty to look at and aesthetically pleasing to own, haha.
If you think yer gonna use the amp and muff more, then I'd say go for it. If it's just a studio guitar, and he's in yer band, it won't be the last time you see it.

Haha, I know I know. It's somewhat embarrassing and vain. But poppy has it right...

I mean, as shallow as it sounds, the only reason my I've dated any of the girls I've dated in my life is because I've found them "aesthetically pleasing." And this is why my relationships fail after only a few months I'm sure.
Ugh, decisions decisions. I've also been hanging onto a Les Paul studio for the longest time because it has an extremely rare and appealing color/wood grain. I don't even like how it sounds anymore, I just feel like if I get rid of it, I'll never see a guitar that looks like it again.

Sounds like the guitar doesn't get much action and you could use another amp.
If you go through with it, take the cash...a used blues deluxe and a muff isn't worth $600.

My sentiments exactly! Take the 600, go get a used blues deluxe and then some!

just trade him for a week or two - see how it feels to part ways with the jag and melt face with two amps...

This. Buck fuck a blues deluxe, you can get a deluxe/twin reverb for that much.

i have that fender blues delux,
its a freaking sweet amp, better than most tube combos ive played. that being said they pop up on craigslist all the time, and despite fenders priceing there always priced between 400 and 600. if i were you i would talk the cash and if you really wanted the amp you could troll CL or ebay or something.
i would recommend getting rid of the guitar if you dont use it much though, unless your spending time in a legit studio, a bunch of guitars just end up taking up space.

I didn't see where you mention what amp you're playing through currently? Your MIJ Jag is exactly like my MIJ Jazzmaster with the red w/ red headstock. My Jag is a MIJ White one..killer guitar. Personally, I wouldn't trade that Jag for a Blues Deluxe..I'd maybe trade it for a silverface Deluxe Reverb. Keep the Jag.

blues deluxe = DUMB
Russian muff = meh

i think that jags worth more that $600. that's a beautiful color and the matching headstock made me mess my pants
