my guyatone tz2 fuzz pedal broke last night. i really liked it but it had way too much bass and sounded snythy on single strings. is there any other fuzz pedals under 100$ simialr to the Guyatone Tz2 except with less bass? i thought about buying a Mxr+ or a proco rat but they seem to standard.

Maybe wait for the malekko omicron super fuzz? it will probably be 100-140 and comes in a cute tiny enclosure.

I'm pretty sure they're not out yet - they were due at the end of '09, but I think production on all the mini pedals got held up.

Yeah Proco Rats are awesome, here's a sound sample http://tonefrenzy.com/sound_files/proco-rat.mp3

What's up with your pedal, maybe it's fixable?

I suppose it depends what you want it to be good for. I have a rat on my board, which is my go-to for snarly, cutting stuff. I wouldn't necessarily use it for a muffish wall of sound. Rats are more gritty than fuzzy to me.

Well are you looking for another super fuzz like the guyatone? Or just something else in general.

I'm certainly not dissing the Rat - I know some people don't like it, but I've had some version of a rat on my board for as long as I've had a board. If the muff is too bassy for you, and you like gritty/snarly tones, the Rat may be a perfect fit! There are a number of different versions out there, though, so I'd suggest trying a couple of different ones to see what you like. Unfortunately, I can't really tell you which iteration sounds like what - I've always been lucky with mine. That said, I'm sure there's someone here with a better grasp of ProCo history.

I'd say the coolest option would be a used big muff being pushed by a Mellowtone SInging Tree :joy:
