I played one of those things last year... it's pretty neat but only as a novelty. It's fun watching the guitar's keys move all by themselves. You hit the 'go' button and strum all the strings open and it does it's thang. It's kind of annoying because if you turn the tuning keys, you throw the calibration of the machinery out of wack and it can apparently seriously eff up the gears and such. There's got to be some kind of on/off button though... I mean, how do you string the fucker up? Also, I found it to be rather heavy, even for a Les Paul.

But if you think robot guitars are overkill, what do you think about this:

I would buy a robot guitar but only if it would help me enslave humanity.

As far as new tuner technology goes, the Polytune is going to way outsell this.

But at $4,000 a pop, they only have to sell a few. :idk:

This is true. And honestly, I don't have a problem with people who want these buying 'em. They just seem a little much to me...

IDK, Robot guitars are sort of the equivalent of having an automatic transmission in an car instead of a stick, or a butler making you dinner. Is it convenient? For sure. Easy and probably tasty? Yup.

But as a group, we are more like the Japanese Import Tuner crowd. We are Hands On! We know that if you want something done right, we do it ourselves.

This approach lends itself to creativity.

Of course, if they make a robot guitar that restrings itself too, I'd like a job as a guitar tech! :p

If that were the case, you'd be out of a job!

The robot guitar is for people who are lazy and/or have money to burn for the latest and greatest gadget. It's an interesting idea. But I drive a stick shift vehicle because I like to be the one controlling the machine, not the other way around.

The answer is no, theoretically, practically, mathematically, and a few other -allys.

How bout a guitar that just stays in tune better? :idk: Some good old fashioned carbon fiber that keeps things in tune much longer, and weighs much less than a COMPUTER ROBOT which may not work that well, may not last that long, and may be waayyy more expensive that it should be for what it does.

I think it's probably very convenient, tuning can be a pain in the ass. Unfortunately it's lame as fuck and ugly too.

:thumb: I completely agree. I'm glad someone made this analogy because I'm super into Japanese Imports.

And fuck the robot guitar. Half the fun of drop D is strumming the first three strings and hearing the E string drop a whole step.
