Tremolo

I have wanted a tremolo pedal for a very, very long time now.
but i am somewhat aprehensive because i dont know much about them, and i dont want to make some purchase of the best reviewed thing, only to find out a couple months later that there is a bunch of better ones that arent as mainstream.
so if anyone has some knowledge on this, some light would be appreciated.

some pluses that i would like:
Expression jack, for speed or depth?
no volume drop
tap tempo?--- i dont know if thats possible
any other qualities that ILF deems quality.

You should check out the new diamond tremolo

It has tap tempo, no volume drop (it can actually work as a boost if you want)...no expression, but it ramps when changing speeds which almost sounds like you are using an expression pedal.
Diamond make some top notch gear...I've always said if I had to choose only one brand to populate my board, it would be diamond (though catalinbread could steal that title if they ever release a delay)

Check out http://www.diamondpedals.com/products/downloads/tremolo_manual_v1_03.pdf
They really put a lot of thought into this one.

Also check out the Empress Tremolo, which also has tap tempo, and a gain knob, so no worries about volume drop. No expression input, but also has the speed changes.

If the expression jack is a bigger deal, check out the 4MS Tremulus Lune, which they will put an expression jack on to control either the rate or depth, whatever you want. They have both a standard and deluxe model with an aux LFO that will speed the speed of the first LFO. Awesome trem, I had one for a while.

cant say from experience but the empress tremolo looks pretty nice too. similar to the diamond that gunner posted. *edit* oops looks like bigchief beat me to the punch!

personally i use this for trem's.
Image

lots of waveforms, auto pan, tempo sync or not, no vol drop, boost. ability to effect only certain frequencies (ie only highs, mids, or lows and all pairs (hi/mid, etc)
plus u get a nice flanger and a extremely badass and useful analog delay....not to much mention that the distortion on the electrix is ridiculous for warming/fattening shit up...have no idea how it sounds on guitars. i mainly use it to add some punch to samples, drums, etc.

Some other ideas were mentioned in this thread: http://www.ilovefuzz.com/viewtopic.php?f=149&t=7493
Focused mainly on ideas for an expression controlled square-wave tremolo.

If you want an old school sound, the Demeter Tremulator is great.

If money is no object, the Roger Mayer Voodoo-Vibe is incredible for everything and if I had one I would never turn it off.

I think you can go with a GEP50 also...I've heard it's the same thing but voiced for guitar.

This!

I've got an Empress Trem, and it's great, but the only thing that's keeping me from being satisfied with it is the thought of the v.3 Goatkeepers on the horizon.

I used to have the GEP50. There was no manual, so I was completely lost on how to edit and save presets.

If you have a Tonecore dock, a lot of places are blowing out the Line 6 Tap Tremelo module for $20.

For instance http://www.samash.com/p/Tap%20Tremolo%2 ... _-49984747

No expression in.

I finally got my Goatkeeper sync'd up with Acid 6 last night. Bounced the metronome down to an audio track, panned it to one side, panned the song tracks to the other, then put the click track into the GK Sync In jack. Then, jacked the LFO Out from the GK into the Randy's Revenge CV In. I hit play on the song in Acid cranked on the RR and away we went in perfect time to the Acid loops. Throw in a few custom waveshapes and crazy sequences on the GK, coupled with some crazy tempo changes coming out of Acid (all of which the GK follows perfectly)...and you've got yourself about 6 hour block of time that you have no idea where it went......yeah, I was up 'til about 3am last night doing that shit.

moral of the story...get the Goatkeeper if you can. :thumb:
