Can lyrics ruin a song?

I was listening to one of my favorite Kiss songs, Shock Me, today. I love the music, great song, great solos, but the lyrics just suck anus. I find this true of about 95% of Kiss' music. But I still love the music! So what do you think, can bad lyrics ruin a song?

for me, more often times than not. ill be listenin to a record, ill be diggin the sounds, then they start singing and it ruins it for me. not saying that i hate all singing. i do enjoy lyrics sometimes, it really depends on how theyre done. i guess dont feel as if songs need words and i think i relate to the instrumentation moreso. i view the singer as more of just another instrument in the mix. :idk:

I have definitely had songs ruined by the lyrics or a singers voice.

Yea. I agree. If I don't like the vocalist for a band, I can't listen to the band. It's like having another guitarist that plays totally out of tune, it ruins the whole experience. I don't know why people aren't more careful of this.

It makes me feel like an idiot when I like a song that has really bad lyrics. I mean, if you can write a song that's so good, why can't you just write decent lyrics to go with it? :idk:

That's a good point... but sometimes people know their ways around instruments and not words. But, someone in a band should be able to write good words tho.

Absolutely. Like, what, lyrics aren't part of the song itself? A bad guitar sound, vocalist, riff, lyrics, bad production are all THE SONG. I don't see how people can say "I like that song except for ____"

But that's just me.
