Randy's Revenge?

Has anyone had any experience fo the Fairfield Circuitry Randy's Revenge ring mod?

Is it versatile? Does it basically cover most tremolo sounds too? Is there a volume drop when it's engaged? THanks!

I've only heard the one sound clip, but it sounds phenomenal.

I have one and love it. There is a master volume so you can adjust it to unity, and it does fantastic tremolo. It isn't as extreme as a lot of ring mods, but for me it basically covers the sweep of what I'd consider truly musical and usable. The dark, thick bell sounds you can get with the LPF are amazing.

The Moog ringmod is probably more versatile, and can go to more extreme places, Randy is a much more musical pedal IMO.

Thanks NW! Very cool.
The beauty of the sounds is what really appealed to me about it, so it's great to hear you've found that in real life (as opposed to just the demo clip).
Do you know what expression pedals work with it? Also, what does the expression control?
Yeah, those bell sounds on the demo are :omg: (what's "LPF" though?).
I'm hoping Santa will be good to me...

There's a knob labelled "LPF", possibly Low Pass Filter.

so. you weren't feeling the Geiger Counter. were you using it for guitar. cuz i could see why...

anyway. there are like a couple of other pedals i would like to get besides this first. & i feel a little nervous spending more than $200 for a pedal but it seems worth it. right now i am getting by w/ the ring mod in my multi-fx unit; nonetheless, the Fairfield Circuitry Randy's Revenge is a great example of a (pricy) boutique pedal that i would LOVE to have: it seems excellent...

;)

Yeah, using it with guitar primarily, and drum machines and keyboards. It really is a killer pedal (not a sales pitch). I imagine I'll have another one in the future. I'm just pretty fuzz heavy right now and there are other things I could put that money towards that would expand my pallette of sounds rather than make it deeper with similar sounds...ring modulation being one of them. I'll have the Mountainking Frequency LSD soon, so I'm pretty sure that is going to cover my weird fuzz pretty well.

Wanted to say thanks Newark Wilder!

Got my Randy's Revenge last week and have actually been playing way more guitar than dicking around on the internet ever since!  :thumb:

The RR is amazing.

I got my RR last night...same thing. Played late into the night, went home for lunch and played some more, and plan on hitting it more tonight...although I'm going to hook it up to my goatkeeper tonight for some added fun :thumb:

amazing pedal. Like NW was saying above..you can dial back the LPF and it takes some of the highs out of the mix allowing you to move around on chords and bring in those deep, almost surreal tones.
