Hard to say, he was always up to something. In one of his guitars he had somehow put a drum machine inside of it...

I saw him around the time of that photo. Early '80s. At that time it had some sort of envelope follower in it so he could make his guitar quack like a duck.
I think he had a bunch of other effects in it like compressors and stuff.
I walked up to him and said "hi" as he was waiting to go on--then a giant security guy 3 x my size got between us and I quickly backed away, fearing for my life.
